I know if you are over something like 5k# then your tag will be a december tag instead of when your birthday is.

my f450 tag just came back like that.

Heck, I just bought a trailer (has it's own thread) and it was tagged "commercial" by the licensing dept because of it's curb weight! Suppose to weight 4050lbs. I'm gonna have to do some research.

Another one of those gotcha ordeals I bet.

And believe it or not, an F150 can get nailed for it.

nailed for what? As i understand it.. it's a weight issue.. if over a certain weight the tag simply renews calander vs on the owners birthday. Not a huge hassle.. just have to remember to renew it.. etc.

Diddo- what did happen to your buddy?

Side question- With trailers, does the tonnage/weight fees go w/ the trailer or the tow vehicle? I know with semi trucks, the trailer is a perm. license. But how about trailers for pickup trucks and cars? Like those 4x8 utility kit trailers they sell? (I have one too, but haven't put it together let alone transfer it yet)?

AFAIK it was improper lane change.

That must be a FL thing. I have a 18,000# trailer and used to have a 24,000# trailer and both were renewed at that same time as all my other stuff, boats included.

Been that way for years. My 2001 Chevy has been that way from day 1. Trailers fall on your birth month no matter the weight.

As for the hassle, it means having to renew different vehicles at different times of the year if you own more than 1. I luck out and can renew both at once because Dec to March doesn't go over a 15 month renewal period.
