BX2200 steering drift

Last spring I had to rebuild my diff lock as it was completely destroyed. After I finished I had a drifting in my steering, I have to constantly turn very slightly in order to keep the tractor going straight. I thought maybe there was air in the lines for the steering, but it never did go away. Maybe some dirt got in and cut a seal?

So, I'm doing yearly fixes and will take care of this now. I am thinking I need to rebuild the steering cylinder due to internal leaking causing the steering to drift?

Any comments on this? Am I on the right track? Another thing it has done in the past a few times, is after mowing for a hour or so , stopping and then restarting, there was no steering, the steering wheel would spin and the front wheels would just slightly turn for a few minutes until it would turn normally.

I think you're on the right track. Mine did this a few years back and it was blamed on a series of steering racks left outside at the factory. They pitted and hydraulic fluid would flow by, causing the steering to drift.

It made mowing the lawn almost impossible.

If you moved the wheel quickly, it would turn. If you moved it slowly, the steering would stay still as the wheel turned.

I remember something about those posts, it has been fine up to now, so I doubt I have the rust issue, but a seal or seals may be leaking. I could maybe run a ball hone in the tube just in case.

It does make mowing a pain, constantly steering to go straight.

Now that the diff is 'tight', a small difference in rear tire radius could be causing the tractor to lead to one direction. First check your tire wear states and pressures. In fact, you can introduce a tire pressure difference in order to straighten it out. The bigger tire steers the tractor towards the opposite direction.

Certainly a leaking steering valve can cause this, but after a diff repair, I'd first suspect the tire radii...

I think your cylinder needs new O rings and seals, they come in a kit. I fixed mine a while back and haven't had a problem since. Hardest part of the job was getting the snap rings out of the end of the cylinder. I don't think I'd be using a hone in the cylinder, the only thing that touches the inside is fluid and rubber O rings. Here's where I did mine.

I had to have my power steering unit replaced shortly after buying my BX2200. There was a problem with the power steering unit used originally around 2000. A factory bulletin was issued to describe the problem. The BX would wonder in both directions and required continuous steering correction. GOOD LUCK.

I just noticed that my BX2230 had the same problem the was mentioned in the original post. I mowed for about 2 hours, turned off the tractor for about 15 minutes and when I restarted it, I was pretty sure the front tires didn't turn when I first turned the steering wheel. It seems to have quickly fixed itself as it worked fine to park it in the barn. I have not checked it since. Anyone else have this problem? My tractor has about 1250hrs on it (I've only had it for the last 150 hrs). There is fluid leak that is coming from the front axle pivot point but that has been there since I got the tractor.

Theres a hole in the cyl aligned with the snap ring groove. Push thru the hole to unseat the end of the ring.
