Wow. Never knew other states had different renewal schedules. Here in WA, it ends up being what ever month you buy a vehicle or have something transferred (if the tabs are up). If it's still current at the time of transfer, you keep the renewal month.

Now, if you do not renew at your renewal and wait a bit (a few months), you still end up having the same renewal month. Example, if you expired in Jan 2009 and then wait till March 09 to renew, your license will be up Jan 2010. You end up paying for 1 year irregardless. Now, if you go a full year with out renewing, say it's past Jan 2010, then what ever month you renew is your new renewal. I have a few vehicles and hate it when a few fall on the same month.

Same here. I like having them spaced out where I don't get hit with several at one time. Easier on the budget.

Back about 30+ years ago in SC EVERY license plate on everything expired on the same day for the whole freaking state:confused2: Imagine what that was like! They still do that for hunting and fishing licenses. Stupid:mad:

Yep, I can remember when all license plates expired on the same day in Texas. Now it depends on when you bought the vehicle and it just so happens that both of mine are the same time.:) All safety inspection stickers also expired on the same day but are now staggered. And yep, our hunting and fishing licenses still all expire on August 31.

Here in Indiana it goes by your last name. All business are in January then it starts in February with "A's" and goes on. The first 1/2 of the people who fall in a certain month fall on the 15th and the rest fall on last day of the month. I like having it all at once.

We can renew and register on the web and save $5 per vehicle or every town has a office. Also here its BMV, not DMV. Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

In Texas, the County Tax Assessor-Collector handles the registrations and renewals. Then it's all sent to the Texas DMV. You can renew online in the counties which have elected to participate, or you can renew by mail for an extra dollar, or in person. If in person, some counties have deals with supermarkets, banks, AAA offices, etc. to also handle renewals. New registrations, transfer of titles, and such usually, if no always, require going to the county tax office. You do have to provide proof of liability insurance to register a vehicle or to renew registration.

So far, in WA, you do not have to provide proof of liability insurance to register/renew. If you did that, I think we would have less cars on the roads here... or more unlicensed vehicles. Or fake insurance cards..... we have lots of 'seasonal labor'.

Yup. I actually have two, wait, three... that can qualify as "collector cars". I'm thinking of getting two of them plated as such. I figure if I drive it one week every quarter to burn the gas out of it to put fresh fuel, it qualifies as "road testing" under their requirements. Any how, I've seen a few cars here and there that have collector plates on them, but they are out quite a bit...
