Although small, that is the size that you do not want to get bitten by. Small snakes like that are undisciplined and will give you a full dose of their poison, plus since they're small, they don't use much of their venom on prey/food. Whereas a large snake uses more venom for prey and is disciplined to control the amount of venom in his bites. Moccassin venom is not as strong as a rattlesnake but it will do very serious damage locally to the bite. For example, if he bites you on the finger, you'll probably lose that finger.

Yea that cotton mouth is a full grown adult. Yes all water snakes actually catch their prey (fish) underwater since that's where the fish are and frogs from anyway they can.
It's really interesting to pull a stringer up and have a 4 foot diamondback water snake hanging from a fish on a stringer but all ya gotta do is just release the fish since that paticular snake is non-posionus and has a mouth full so it's not dangerous.
