OK so I used Kubota's website to work up a sticker price for the tractor I want. But my question is how much off the sticker price can I realisticly expect to get? Or, how much should I pay for this tractor?

Different areas of the country vary greatly, but here in the South approx. 15% off retail is about the norm IMHO.

I have been getting quotes on tractors here in the south, and from I have been seeing is about 15% to 18% for the tractor and 0% to 10% on implements.

I see you're from the middle of the Mitten.

Around here, I have not found anyone selling for 15% off list. That would extraordinary and would be a machine a dealer needed to liquidate to free up his money.

10% off here is a good, good deal. Do better than that, and you have something going on.

If I could get an extra 5-8% off just by driving south a few hours, it might be worth the trip. They all have the same warranty no matter where you buy.

before you jump in the family wagon and go on a road trip try calling a few dealers in the area. May suprise you of the price you get. Remember a tractor is not a purchase, it is an investment. A good dealer behind it is just as important as the right tractor. Plus this way you can get to know the local dealers and find the one to take the machine to for service.

Different packages merit different discounts too. BX discount wont be the same as a Grand L discount. Looks like you got a great tractor picked out though. nice work

I don't think a Kubota dealer has any of his money tied up in a new Kubota. Used for sure but I don't think so in a new one.

Sure. But, don't dealerships "floor" their product like the auto guys do? If so, then yup, it's tied up and sometimes needs to be freed up. Just sayin'.

Morgan, different areas of the country seem to reflect different prices, if you listen to the buyers who post here. 15-18%??? I have shopped 'Botas twice here in Michigan. Good dealers. Differing prices, but I have never gotten quotes, even with face to face follow-up anywhere near 15-18% off. I scratch my head when I hear of guys posting here, claiming that level of discount they say they've gotten. Not saying they didn't, just saying I cannot match that here. The dealers are straight up and say, they simply cannot.

It's pretty much a purchase.:laughing: I hear that a lot here, and I smile. I know what folks mean by it, but it isn't an investment that returns a dividend like a CD, rare coins or savings account. Nice sales language, but honestly, it is a depreciating product. Your point, however, is well taken. Can't beat a good local dealer for support.

Don't think so, not like auto guys. Not "floored".

Hmmmm, interesting. I'd like to have a better understanding of this. Heard once, don't know if it is true, that if a unit "ages" too long, the price begins to drop until it gets moved. If true, wonder who authorizes that?

Have to be Kubota. Barlows had a new, around, 3 year old tractor with full warranty and 0% financing at a great price that was sent from another dealer. Sure Barlows would have gotten their profit and in that profit range they could make the decision of how much to sell it for. Believe Kubota would have given them a sale price and did probably drop it as it aged. Educated speculation.:) I ask questions.:)

This discussion is applicable to the buying process and how much off "sticker" idea. Obviously, if a machine is two or three price hikes old, the "build your Kubota" feature, which is where people get the "sticker", I suppose, is higher than that for an aged machine, making the older machine look like a better buy.

Someone sat on that money, that the older tractor represents. If the dealers don't floor plan, then Kubota, the owner", takes gas on that investment until it's finally sold. They could use disincentives and positive incentives to keep from having equipment aging too long. I'm sure those things are built into the dealer's contract or license with Kubota.

I don't think a Kubota dealer has any of his money tied up in a new Kubota. Used for sure but I don't think so in a new one.

Dealers must begin making payments to Kubota after a certain time period, depending on product line. The floorplan periods are different for each series, but a dealer doesn't get to keep the tractors on the lot for free more than a period of months.

Don't know if this has a bearing.

We looked at the L39.

The "build your machine" part of the website priced it at a little more than 42,000. The dealer used the website the same as we would.

True, we are planning to "trade-in" our Farmtrac 360 DTC FEL/BH

However, without even seeing our used tractor, he punched a few buttons on his computer and said he knew he could make the deal for 22,000. Maybe better, after he sees our old machine.

Now, if he can drop 20.000 off the price for a Farmtrac, it does make you wonder.

Somehow, I don't think we could get 20K selling the Farmtrac ourself. We are just trying to decide between the L39 and the L45.

In the boating world years ago, on the larger models the factory would move them around a few dealers lots in an area without an interest charge. They knew it was a major investment for an individual dealer so several dealers had the opportunity to sell it and they shared the unit. The Kubota dealers may have an allotment of different units they forecast at the beginning of the year. As their delivery comes up they may be able to "pass" on some if things are slow and that would allow the factory rep to make a deal with other dealers to take the shipment. Could explain why every once in a while there is a "super" deal for someone. If it doesn't work that way maybe it should, then we would get a chance to play the lottery every once in a while buying a new tractor

I can just speak for myself and that is from Florida to Southern Ohio the price I got varied from $2600-5000 difference for same tractor and those dealers held firm and in fact the one in Florida was more at first than the msrp on the website and just came down slightly. That's why I went with Steve Barlow no bull straight up dealing. Also warranty work can be done at any dealer and service. And that also include the delivery that was 150 miles.

I also used Kubota's website to configure a tractor, and I did alot of research on this site and with friends. The first dealership I went to quoted me $800 above the MSRP! The second dealership was at least below MSRP. I contacted a total of 5 dealerships, and the price difference was $300 to $3000. Every dealership stated that was there best deal and would not move on the price. The actual tractor price had the biggest discount. The options had little or no discount.

This would be my fourth new Kubota tractor. I am very familiar with the local dealers and I do my own service on them unless it is a warranty repair. I am really just looking for the best price.
