Mine gave up the left speaker last fall. I bought a 25 dollar set of sound "isolating" earbuds. I have to say they are better than the 100 dollar JD headphones. I bough the carbon12 by Carbon 12 They do a much better job of lowering the noise level and the sound quality is much better also, especially surpising for such cheap earbuds. Good ones can run several hundred dollars.

Are you saying the Carbon12's are noise canceling... I have tried sound reducing ear plugs in the past with my mower and they just didn't cut out the noise... and had to blast the sound on my ipod to hear.

I also like to be able to let my wife or kids use noise canceling when I am done and "in the ear" just isn't something everyone wants to "pass around".

But I would like some earbuds at work that would be noise canceling... I just don't see those words on their website (carbon12).

Unless you work next to top fuel dragsters I think they will work well for you.
No they are not active noise cancelling they are noise "isolating". And they do a very good job. Almost on par with foam earplugs. They are weighty when compared to really cheap earbuds which I think probably helps. They come with different sizes of buds to fit your ears. I was sceptical but I noticed a wall of different earbud while I was delivering to an ovation (a higher end electronics store) the salesman really talked them up even while standing next to 300 dollar ones so I bought them. I was really impressed as soon as I put them in.
You are right they are not something you would want to share any more than you toothbrush.

Peltor 2 worktunes here... AM & FM + ear protection. Life is good.:)

I've been using the Peltor Worktunes for a while. Paid around $50 at Lowes.

They're comfortable, provide ample hearing protection and the radio works well. I mostly use them with my MP3 player to listen to audio books. I was disappointed to find that the jack for the external player is just a pass-through to the speakers. The internal amplifier cannot be used to boost the volume. The output on my Creative Zen player is just barely enough to be audible over the engine noise.

The other problem is that the antenna interferes with my hat.

But still.. thumbs up.

John Deere Active Noise Canceling Headphones - GX22225 at The Home Depot

This is what I have It works great it cancels out the tractor sound but I can still hold a conversation with the tractor at high RPM's plus I can hook my iPod up to it and listen to music while operating the tractor.

You don't get much bang for the buck for that $4-5K. :D

Trust me, the radio has to be turned up real loud just to hear it in a cab. I'm not even picky about my radio quality. I like to listen to talk radio while I work. The noise cancelling headphones sound like they would be perfect for me.

I agree with that statement. Hydro whine/engine noise in the cab of my B3030 doesn't make it practical to listen to the stereo.
