I started calling around today about the JD850 parts but not much luck. Got some leads on old tractor salvage yards that I will follow up on next week. I did look at a few tractors and there looks like quite a few that would also work. Mostly Ford and JD. I did notice that most of the compact to mid size JD's are almost identical to the Yanmar's set up with just a bit larger steel and wheels.

It's amazing how much you don't pay attention to things until you decide to modify them. I started looking closely at the pivot pin to see how hard it would be to make a bigger one and found a lot of wear on it. More stuff to fix! Driven this tractor for a few years and just kept greasing it. Should have took the time to look at it. My wheel hubs are worn and the bearings fit loosely in the hubs. I have replaced the bearings before because of the play and I hope to just replace the whole thing with a larger unit. Wheels and all.

I believe it is a 1975 model. My dad owned it for 3 years and I have had it for 5. The only things I have replaced on it are the steering gearbox bearings, muffler and front wheel bearings. The steering gearbox on these models will fill up with water over time and rust the bearings. You can tell it's filling up with water when you see the oil start seeping out around the bolts that hold it together. It's a real pain replacing the bearings and getting the worm gear lined back up. I'm thinking about drilling a hole at the base of the gear box and putting in a small shut off valve to just drain the water out as it builds up. You can add more oil through the small rubber plug in the column. The hour meter says 938 but I figue it's probably got about twice that since it is a mechanical tach. The engine never smokes unless I get on it hard and only for a second or two. I am starting to see a small amount of seepage around the injector fuel lines going into the injectors. I am going to replace the alternator this winter as I have to charge the battery a couple of times during the summer. I use the tractor almost everyday. Other than that, no other leaks and everything works. I did put an oil pressure gage on it as I don't like idiot lights.

Nice job on the gauges Neat. I put the oil gage in the top left like yours. I have the other gages but have not gotten around to putting them on. What type of sending unit did you use for the temperature gage?

they are all electric, the gauge and matching sender are 60 to 120 celsius and i have not had mine over 100c even on a 40c day dragging the slasher around.
