Local dealer just started handling Cherokee brand tillers. They look similar to the King Kutter II tillers he has but are less expensive. Could be worth considering.

Anyone have any experience with or knowledge of Cherokee implements, especially their rotary tillers in the four to five foot range?

Could you post a picture of one of them and maybe we can identify it? Ken Sweet

That looks like a "Tarter" tiller except they have the Cherokee PTO on backwards. Our price is 4 ft $1495--5 ft $1595 and 6 ft $1695--All in stock and made in USA. Ken Sweet

Not 100% certain, but I'm pretty sure that is a chinese import tiller. It is a copy of the King Kutter though. That's for sure. You can tell it's not their's b/c it's not all painted one color, due to the KK paint dipping process. That and the rotor is painted black.

It looks an awful lot like the Darkhorse tiller of Tractorybnet fame. If it is, I wouldn't get within a 100 yards of it. I think most would tell you the same. They sure had a lot of trouble with those. A company in the US bought most of those Darkhorse products that were in the US (tiller and rotary mowers)... repainted, and then re-badged them something different. (I think I know who it is, but I'd hate to say b/c I'm not 100% certain.) Anyway, it's another mfg. of 3-pt equipment, and I know that whoever they are, they're actively putting these in auctions, and other places, trying to pass them off as something they're not.

keyser . . . you're probably right. I stopped by and took another look at these this morning. The dealer had both the Cherokee and King Kutter II five foot tillers in stock. The Cherokee was $1425 and the King Kutter II $1585. Except for slight differences in paint color and decals, they were precisely identical. The tines on the KKII seemed a little thinner and sharper, but overall gauge of steel and everything obvious to a casual inspection appeared to be the same.

Still, I wouldn't buy the Cherokee even though it is $160 less expensive. There's something suspicious about the whole thing . . . and you can't really tell about the gearbox with an external inspection.
