Guys, I am thinking of buying a new L5740 with a FEL, I can get either the HD bucket or the standard bucket with quick detatch system for the same price. Can anyone tell me if the HD bucket is worth it? I cant seem to find the specs on the HD compared to the Standard. Th:thanks!!

The HD bucket will cut your net lift capacity so best to have a good reason to have more than the standard bucket IMO. Standard buckets are pretty tough. I'd personally consider the HD only if a primary job was digging in rocky soil.

I tend to agree with IslandTractor; bought mine used so I didn't have a choice. You will really have to try to damage a standard bucket and you can add reinforcement if needed.

I also agree. The only advantage I see is for someone using the bucket hard on a day to day basis (like in a business) as the HD bucket has a bolt on replaceable cutting edge (were the standard bucket does not). For everyone else the std bucket should be fine and saves on weight as someone else mentioned. I think the Hd bucket is also smaller as I recall it was 66" vs 72" for the Std bucket.

I bought my loader used and did not have a choice either. I got an LA724 for my L3940 with quick attach and heavy duty bucket. Heavy duty bucket is heavier, has same struck capacity, but has rounded back on the inside. Don't know if this rounded back is better or not. Check Barlow's, he has a few used loaders, that is where I got mine in great condidtion for about $1800 less than new, even came with all new brackets and grill guard. Philip.

We have two tractors with standard buckets and one with HD and haven't bent or broken any of them and we are not gentle on equipment. We don't do rocks or concrete slabs which as mentioned would indicate the possible need of HD. I do like the replaceable cutting edge on my HD though.

I think you will really like the 5740.

I have HD bucket, would certainly go that way for same price.
Mine has a very heavy rounded top where the chain hookd are attached....makes it CLEAR that there is no additonal support needed when welding chain hooks on.

I prefer the heavy duty bucket.

I can't put the replaceable cutting edge on the standard square back bucket? The Kubota web site allows you to configure it that way and I was planning on getting it since I have rocky soil.

rocky soil = need for toothbar on FEL bucket....

I'd strongly recommend a toothbar if you will be messing with rocks/rocky ground
