50 hr oil change

I wear "Gear Oil" cologne!

Buy the blue gloves at Napa. I have a box, but rarely use them. I always think of the fact AFTER my hands are stained and I've wrecked another pair of pants and a shirt!

I did my LB1914 last Saturday for the 3rd time.

That's good news that you've got that many hours on it. I don't have the book in front of me but that must be around 1200 hrs? I find that and other posts reassures me in my choice of tractors.

We have those gloves at work and I always forget to put them on as well. I even take them with me but then get involved with what I'm doing and forget about them. I usually remember as the oil or grease is flowing over my hands.

Yup, same story. I've got some of those gloves in the shop but hate working with gloves and forget to put them on until it's too late when they'd be handy....

I don't recall my hydro filter being that difficult. It was typical, factory dry-tough but didn't lose any skin. I DID have fun with the drain pan shuffle though. I filed that in my memory bank for the next change, hopefully I'll remember. Other than dealing with the volume of oils, the 50hr service couldn't really be any easier. My dealer would have done it just for the cost of the fluids/filters but I figured it was a good "learning experience". ;)

My dealer charges 500.00 to do a 50 hr service. I think that is way too much for a relatively simple task. I realize they may notice something I may miss but still...

I see you have a woods RB. I got one and used it to grade my road. It bent very easily. I don't have a good pic here but both outside corners are bending backwards so that the mouldboard is getting flatter, the middle is just slowly folding back under the gussets.

It was rated up to 25 HP I think. I don't think it a warrenty issue. I think what the problem may be is they may have been designed for a lighter tractor. I'll get some steel and stiiffen it.

Before you dismiss the cost as excessive, add up the fluids and filters for starters. Then consider their hourly shop rate. I think you will see that at least half of the charge is for supplies. I also assume that with that sort of service, a good dealer will go over all the nuts and bolts that you might miss such as for a backhoe subframe. If a dealer has a set charge for the 50hr service they should be able to supply you with a list of things they do so you can decide if it is worth it to you.

I did my own but I also saw the list of things that Wallace Tractor does for a full 50hr service and realized that the price is not that outrageous.

The fluids and filters were 172.00. The shop rate is 65.00/hr. Up here that's 500.00 plus 13% tax..around 570.00

I did consider it because the fluids and filter costs were par with other places I called and the shop rate is probably on par or maybe a little cheaper. It just seemed too high regardless of what they did.
I agree that there is definitely a gain in having someone, who sees this equipment routinely, working on it. I work in a mechanical job so I figured I would be capable of doing it and I thought I would learn more about the tractor.

Maybe I'm cheap and over confidant(smile).

The 50hr service is totally doable on your own. Just don't forget to do the other things on the list after changing fluids and filters. It is a great time to get under the tractor with wrenches to check tightness and lube all those hard to reach zerks. Invest in a maintenance manual if you don't already have one. I cannot recall if Kioti has updated the CK manual (the old one was not great) but I can vouch for the new DK manual as a model of how these things should be written and illustrated. They cost about what you'd pay the dealer for an hour of a mechanics time so are good values.

I think up here its around 150.00. I will get one in a month or so. They can be worth much more than what you pay up front

I would pay that for one of the new versions if I planned to do my own maintenance and troubleshooting. The old one for the CK wasn't worth much more than $60 or so.
