Well maybe not to non tractor people but if you own anysort of farm equip you know what a bushhog is .Even non bushhog brands are called bushhogs .Neighbor bought new jd 606 mower . I said nice bushhog. It's so iconic that it's not even a brand but more like a category of implement .How many people here when they see a mower no matter what brand they call it a bushhog

It's akin to kleenex, xerox, and scotch tape -- a particular brand becomes the name of a product class.

I'm curious, did Bush Hog manufacturer the first rotary mower?

Dont know but even companys here like jd carry bushhog brand even though jd makes it own series of rotary mowers . from what ive can tell bushhog makes theirs out of thicker metal than every one else . the case dealership here carries schulte .I think BH makes more variety of the rotary mower than anyone else . i mean they have a 3 pt 15' rigid mower which i want someday 4215 .Rhino or landscape makes a wide range of mowers to though. Dont know but you can type in bushhoging on youtube and pops up videos of rotary mowers lol

1.) Thicker metal... Not really, no. Bush Hog makes rotary cutter decks out of 11 ga., 10 ga., and 7 ga. (or 3/16). MOST companies do that. The lighter duty models will use 11 ga. materials, the medium duty might use 10 ga., and the heavy duty will use 7ga. or 3/16 in. thick deck material... so it's not that Bush Hog makes heavier equipment. Also... last year, Bush Hog got bought by the Alamo Group, which owns many brands including Rhino and Schulte and now Bush Hog. Bush Hog survived on their name for quite a while, but many other companies caught up. They made some nice products. So do many other companies.

2.) More model options... maybe, but if so it's not by many. In fact... Land Pride has a 15 series, 16 series, 18 series, 35 series, 50 series, 55 series, and 60 series or Rotary Cutter or Rotary Mower or Brush Hog or whatever you call it.

I don't think Bush Hog has that many different models. Bush Hog isn't the giant that it used to be. Thought some of y'all might like to know, if you didn't already...

If a person has just a wee bit to mow they can get by with a weed eater.

Mis-named brush hog (rotary cutter) gets called a Bush Hog. But most know what is being discussed just the same.
People mispell words too, and we can usually sort it out. Doesn't make it right, but seems on TBN we should try to call a rotary cutter what it is, and not give it a mfg's. name.

Good point that you raise.

Lots of examples of people calling things by a similar or familiar name, that isn't right.

Caterpiller is a good example, instead of crawler.

Another one is "loader" when meaning a TLB (tractor loader backhoe). It becomes endless, and maybe mindless...:D :D

Reason i thought Bh was made from thicker metal was because the 7ga models are the only ones i look at and when comparing them models to other like it but from different mfg's they are thinner.I couldnt imagine the 3210 made from 11 ga metal

In fact... the 3210 is built with a 10 ga. deck. Not much thicker than 11 ga. and definitely much thinner than 7 ga. material.
