Golden Corral

There were a couple of Po Folks around here years ago. I ate there a couple of times and was really disappointed. They used the very cheapest pork chops full of bones and the cheapest grades of meat with lots of fat and gristle.

They figured that spending less on food items would allow them to have lower prices but I didn't want to eat that food at any price.

there was a good "Po Folks" in Snellville Ga,25 miles away back in the early 90's and also one in Buford 15 miles away, I eat at both and would rather travel 25 miles to Snellville than to eat at the much closer one only 15 miles away, we went to Panama City Fla. about 5 years ago, we looked for a good place to eat there, could not find anything that had good Veggies and wasn't a Hole-n-the-wall, did travel just outside of town and found a "Po Folks" and stopped in there to eat, it was the worst "PO Folks" of all
everything floating in either butter or cooking oil, even the Buford Po Folks was better place to eat then the one in Fla. The strange thing was the best location shut down first and then Buford a few years later and from what I see Fla. location is still up and ruining, go figure

I am amazed at how much cheaper food is in the US vs here in Canada. That said, I have a few comments to bring to the discussion...

First off, with food cost like this, what about the poor farmer. Why do they not get a decent share of the markup? Hogs are worth dirt and all you can eat ribs for $10??? I remember the turkey price per pound thread and it's just not right. The farmer gets nothing and starves (unless he is a giant mega farm outfit that I would not to eat products from).

Certainly the large population and industrial / agricultural advancement of large countries such as the US make for scale volumes and vertical efficiencies, but again, at what cost?

Sorry to be a pain, I love to eat, I love a good value, but I know so many farmers who starve and I see middle men who make a lot of money on their backs.

Rant over, now I'll go to buffet!!!:confused2:
