I was running my rotary cutter this morning, and the recommended that I grease something every time pre-run, which is fine, however, I could not find a zerk in the general area they were telling me to grease. Its the U-joint on the drive shaft going back to the cutter, and they only suggest I grease the one at the tractor and not at the cutter end. Should I just shoot grease into the u-joint as best I can, and should I grease the one on the cutter end?

Sorry if this question seems mundane but I want this tractor to last, every vehicle I have owned I have run well past 100k miles before some driver decided to total it for me, I want this tractor to out live me.

That's kind of odd...all my shafts have zerks at both yokes. Is it possible the zerk has fallen out? You'd be looking for a small threaded hole (about ¼" diameter). Try cleaning off the yoke as best you can...
But maybe that u-joint has sealed bearings...
BTW, who is "they"? The dealer that sold you the cutter?

I have a zerk question and it's not on a tractor...On my 04 GMC, I greased it today and the grease squirted back out of the zerk..I squished it down and the spring works...Only stopped coming out with the zerk depressed.

Put a shelf end cover over it and it didn't have enought pressure to push it off...Ideas?

Don't want to leave it like this.

Sorry ,they is the manual, in the instructions it just shows greasing the PTO end. Is it possible I need to rotate the U-joint around or should the zerk be in an obvious place?

Rotate the shaft with the mower in the air. There is usually a hole in the plastic guard on the u-joint area that will align with the zerc fitting and you can then get your grease gun on it.

Take a look inside the yoke.

For me I have found that is better just to yank the PTO shaft off and grease it on the workbench. I have tried greasing through the holes provided in the PTO shrouds but found out that I needed a tail so I could hang upside down while trying grease.

MY JD Flail mower has access holes in the shrouds for the zerks. :)

even with the access hole it seems near impossible to get the u-joint at the clutch plate. I am thinking of making the access hole much bigger.
