look at industrial manufacturing. no big iron working plants like there used to be in many places.. I do know of a foundry that still pours small castings like carbs and whatnot..but not like it used to be..

now back to regularly scheduled programming! :)

Yep, now that obligatory the chinese/usa discussion is over, let's get the votes: I'm going with Deere. Might not be the very best (but darn close) in the drivetrain dept., but IMO, their fit finish and resale value push them past the others.
If I was a rich boy, I'd own all Deere.

I dunno, I'm trying to settle on which one to buy right now, & I think you gotta be a rich boy to buy any of them. Rich or do debt anyway. At least they have 0% financing right now on most or all of 'em.

Cadillac of Tractors? My answer would likely be Deere on most fronts. That said they have a junker or three in the lineup. I'm new to compacts but could gladly live out my days behind the wheel of an 8030 series Row Crop if 200-345 HP was my power range. And I did NOT have to pay for fertilizer, chemicals, seed, and fuel. Not to mention being at the mercy of the weather. Other than that I'd love to farm again...:D

75-125 HP 6030 Premium without question. Lukewarm on the 7030 series but would likely go that direction as well. Over 200 HP, but short of articulating, the 8030 is a prize. Though I would take a CAT Challenger over Deere if tracks were the choice...

I like Deere Dozers until you get above the 650. Above that I prefer CAT.

Would take a Cat Excavator every time over a Hitachi/Deere.

Prefer Deere on Backhoes... Would go 410 with an enclosed cab. If you need a 710 you'd likely be better off with an excavator. Had an owner try to convince me a hoe could compete with excavator... Once he got some time behind a little Hitachi 120-3 that all changed...:)

I can walk into my dealer and get parts for my wife's little riding mower from the 80's.

Parts, resale, quality of build, castings-John Deere. The design problems on my 2006 were all addressed in the 2010 model, that's a good company. Stodgy company, PITA on many things but they're doing something right on their assembly lines.

The longevity of John Deere speaks for itself. That and their effortless power steering.

I don't want a turbo engine, & unfortunately most of the JD's in my size/ power range have them. Therefore, I think I'll be getting a . :thumbsup: ..<-- note color

This is a common misnomer. It used to be true, but it isn't anymore. Especially with compact tractors.

So... Unless we're talking about a 4020 (real tractor not compact model) or a 55 or 60 series John Deere Tractor, you are indeed mis-informed.

In compacts, Kubota, hold their resale value the best. It's not even that close.
