Wish I knew the rest of the story about this one:

What Could Happen When You Try To Pull a JD 650 with a Pickup Truck :: RickeyStokesNews.com!

I do believe he exceeded his rated tow capacity. At night. I can't make out how it was tied down, either.

Also, saw a guy going down a 4-lane in MS last weekend with a vertical 80gal air compressor in the bed of his truck - no tie downs, but his buddy was standing in the back, feet spread wide, looked like he had a fair grip, so I guess that was ok.... LOL!

I can not see any tie downs either. Looks like a SRW GM truck and a bumper pull trailer so I would say he was way to light on the tongue weight and surely over weight when pulling that load with that truck.

I would guess the trailer to be 5,500# and the dozer is 19,750# according to John Deers site.

He probably thought he could hold that compressor, when in reality, the slightest tapping of the brakes or even moderate acceleration, and both he and the compressor will be history.

I don't see the truck in the picture. It looks more like an SUV from one of the agencies if you are refering to the 3 taillight in the first picture. Trailer looks like a pintle type hitch. But no matter what pickup it was, I'll bet it exceeds the mfg's GCWR.

Chris, I would've expected to see at least some remnants of tiedowns if they were used. Bet that guy was over weight by a factor of two at least.

Bird, agreed - my comment was seriously tongue-in-cheek.

FlaDon, I think it is a pickup, not just from the title of the story, but if you look close at the last pic, you can just make out the bed angling sharply downward and a white toolbox just below the light.

Also finally figured out why my posts are never formated correctly...

You know, he had to have it tied down. And now that I look at it he had it tied down fairly well. If you look at pic #2 you can see a chain near the front left track. The Dozer is still basically on the trailer. There is no way that could have happened if it were not tied down, and tied down good. That is a metal tracked Dozer and a metal decked trailer which I know from personal experience with a Case Dozer is like a hog on ice and slicker than snot.

That Dozer would have been slipping and sliding just doing normal driving with a steel decked trailer and would have went flying if the trailer was to jackknife. Actually if he would have lost the Dozer he probably would not have flipped.

It should have slid right off if it wasn't tied down is right. Any tracked equipment will slide on steel decks and can be a pain on wood that is wet if they don't have grousers on the treads.

I dont think a cop would have had an SUV parked so close (with the rear tire almost on top of the tongue of the truck). I think it is the pickup that was towing the trailer and when the trailer flipped, it got under the corner of the bed of the truck and lifted it up off the frame.

When I read 650, I had no idea you were talking dozer! What a surprise when I saw photo! LOL
