Cadillac of tractors?

I used to own Deere and they are good machines. So are Kubota, NH. It comes all down to what YOU need and want. The SCUT is what I was needing right now, I researched ,test drove, and asked dealers questions, some of which I learned on this website. The most informed and helpful dealers out in my area narrowed down to 2, Kubota and MF. Deere seemed to rest on there reputation? Not sure why. I was born and raised in Deere country, and IMHO the Deere did have the best ergonomics, but I was looking for help and info after the sale, which I got the impression I wasn't going to get from Deere. I see ALOT of Kubotas and dealers around here. I liked the MF over the Kubota because of the hydro strength, size and weight, and engine noise vs the Kubota. I settled on MF because of it meeting my needs better and the great customer service I receive. I even went to a Kubota, MF, NH dealer 5 miles down the road and tried to buy from them and they kept trying to get me to buy the Kubota they had in stock! I told them I want the MF 2610 and I would gladly pay a little more for them to get me one, and I was willing to wait, to keep my money local. They told me they thought the MF was the same machine as the Kubota for more money! So I went 45 mins. away and bought what I wanted. You will only be happy with what you try out and like yourself. We can only give opinions, and our experiences. Cadillac and GM are not the same as they were years ago, just like every other major company. Things change. Toyota now owns Duramax, and I think they are trying to buy Allison too. The Japanese make very good machines IMO. So whatever you decide, you must be happy with it:thumbsup::thumbsup:. Probaby what is meant, is a turbo engine usually adds about 10 hp and at the same time uses less fue and more effecientl. That is why you are seeing more and more of that in the new Auto/Truck industry products. Ken Sweet

If you look at the Kubota M series of tractors, the turbo engines (generally DT1 models) only have 1 more HP than the natural engines. Same tractor model, same engine (displacement, etc.)

I don't know where you are getting the 10HP figure although it may be true in some situations.

I was comparing the 383 MF to the 393 MF that I purchased back in the 90's. The turbo 393 cost me $3000 more at the time and was well worth it. Ken Sweet

The thing is, I (the OP) was looking for the "Cadillac* of Tractors" regardless of where it's made - I can't even remember how the where-it's-made part came up in this thread! And I'm not going back to look either!

* In reality, the BMW or Mercedes of tractors, as I've never actually thought Cadillacs were all that great.

Ahh, so maybe you meant "Lexus" ?

Mercedes make taxis and cars for wives of grocers (Berlin reference).

Yep, now that obligatory the chinese/usa discussion is over, let's get the votes: I'm going with Deere. Might not be the very best (but darn close) in the drivetrain dept., but IMO, their fit finish and resale value push them past the others.
If I was a rich boy, I'd own all Deere.

I guess it comes down to HOW rich ?
For VERY rich;
Maybe I would shed (& I don't mean "garage") tractors, implements, tools and a whole bunch of things that I have accumulated for "doing things myself".
Heck, if I ever dared to add it all up it might well have been cheaper to call tradesfolk over the years and spend my time on fun things.

fwiw & imho,
I find farm work, or estate management, to be "fun". If you farm to pay the bills then it can become something less fun fillled. Worry and rediculous fertilizer and chemical bills seem to to take over. Not to mention paying $200K plus for a main tillage tractor with beans that are at the same levels seen in when a main tillage tractor was less than $25K. In all honesty I have NO desire to play farmer. The stakes have become greater the payout has become less...

We HAVE seen production increases, however, look at the control that Round-Up exercises over the farmer. You might be able to spray your beans with Roundup, however, if they catch holding any in your bins you are in trouble. Their legal department is unreal...

In short I love the life but could do without the stress. I just may go with an estate tractor and leave farming to those so inclined. To much angina for me. Ad rich into the equation and the answer becomes more and more clear...fwiw

I didn't mention it, but meant to say some diesels have a hard time breathing.

While shopping for a 1 ton truck recently, I drove alot of older ford 7.3 NA diesels from early 90's .. and compaired tot eh turbo'd 7.3's.. well.. there really was no comparison.. the turbo'd units have more get up and go. and at highway speeds when you stomp the smoke pedal.. the turbo'd units actually respond, even when already crusing at 70mph.

in ford tractors, I have a 5000 NA, and a 7610s turbo.. have driven a 7000 which is basically a 5000 with a turbo. I have also driven a 5000 with an M&W turbo kit. The turbo'd models win hands down in my book. the extra 7 minutes needed to warm up ( 5) and at shutdown (2) are non issues. As far as repair.. well.. run clean oil of the correct grade and change at correct intervals. fix broken manifolds if you find them, and observe shutdown and startup procedures. over the years I've had various turbocharged gas and diesel products. I've only had a problem with 1.. it was a gasser pontic car.. I was a teenager.. I ran it hard, didn't change the oil often and put it away hot. it eventually ate a 700$ turbo. after that.. I did the oil and start/.shutdown by the book.. car had no problems for years.. sold it to a buddy who used al lthe good out of it, then gave it to his brother.. finally it got junked because it was ugly and interior was bad.. car drove to the junkyard just fine.

as for your kubota comparison.. I'm not up on those models.

do they have identical bore and stroke? same compression ratio? any difference in pump and settings?

Well, looks like I am looking a little too far into the future, I know they are in the process of developing a diesel with Isuzu. But only own, something like 6%, so I was wrong, they don't own Duramax, yet.
