Cadillac of tractors?

90% of the turbos on compact trators are not for hp gain but for more of epa requirements and the other 10% is really just a selling feature cause what is 3 or 4 more hp going to do nothing that it couldn't do with out it

but u will hardly ever have a turbo go out on a compact cause the tractor will hardly ever be used like the larger equipment

but i would say if u don't like a turbo dont get one it is your decision and nobody else no matter if they like them or not u wont gain are lose much either way

4 hp is alot on a compact.

what more can u do with 4 hp i cant think of anything

but what i was trying to get at is that there is no reason for everybody to be arguing over a turbo that will only gain 4 hp is not that big of a deal if somebody likes turbo good if they dont like them thats ok to thats there personal preference

Yup, that's why every piece of heavy equipment, modern full sized tractors, dozers, scrapers, pans etc. etc. all have turbo chargers. Most heavy tractors, such in dozers, have a couple of turbo chargers. Nah, they aren't so important.

So where do we disagree? And where did I say they "aren't so important"???

I have a 70HP tractor without a turbo and a 108HP "full size" tractor with one and 3 diesel trucks with turbos on them :rolleyes: The "new & improved" has a turbo with a WHOPPING 1 additional HP and a bunch of pollution crap I could live without. On my tractor YES it IS unimportant. Actually it's has almost zero cost to benefit.

Disagree with me, fine. Put words in my mouth? I don't think so. I'm agreeing with you on most points.

So why do they sell tractors with only 4-5 hp difference?

because there is so many people that buy tractors that think 4 hp is a big deal and will give $2000 more for a tractor with 4 more hp its call sells features but if u dyno test most of the compact tractors that has a 4 hp difference u will see there really is no difference in them at all

u only see it in the compacts u dont see it in the bigger tractors

Couldn't live without a turbocharger on a truck. the get up and go performance is [sic] unmistakeable. On a tractor, not so important.

Sorry pal, but those are your words. It's a direct quote from you. You said, and I quote again, "On a tractor, not so important." I gave information as to why I rather strongly disagree with your statement. Not trying to be contrary, but I've worked on plenty tractors with turbo chargers on them that made a HUGE difference. Have you tried to operate a D11 with neither turbo working? It seems like it has almost no hp or torque. I feel the twin turbos it has make quite a difference and are rather important.

Yeah, "only" 4 horse must matter... because up and down Kubota's entire B line is in 3 and 4 horse increments. (This isn't implying they have turbos, it is just to illustrate that 3 or 4 horse does matter in the tractor marketplace.)

The only difference I can tell between Kubota's M8540 (85 horse) and M9540 (95 horse) engine is the M9540 has an intercooler (both have a turbo). My guess is they just increased the boost a little only wastegate. This is a 10 HP gain (12%)... pretty significant.

Yes, a lot of turbo use in the CUTS does seem to be emissions related.

I think the main argument about turbos was their perceived risk. Turbos in diesel engines are so widely used today, that the added complexity and possibility of failure is just something I (and A LOT of tractor owers) just don't lose sleep over.

I did not buy my tractor because it had a turbo... nor did I exclude it from my buying decision because it had one.

whats i was trying to say is there shouldn't be a big argument over a turbo thats goin to only gain 4 hp if they are that scared of one breaking them they really will not loose anything buy getting the tractor with out the turbo and i dont see a tractor with 4 more hp doing much more than a tractor with out it but i would agree the turbo would be the last thing i would be worried about going out because like i said it does not really do the same things as the ones on the large pieces of machinery they are more for just epa reguirements than hp gain

most of the hp differences or from injection pump pressure being set at different amounts than if it has a turbo are not
