Do any of you see a problem with me driving my new (M8540) tractor home from the dealer?

We are waiting for a rotary cutter to show up. Once it does, I can take delivery of it and the tractor... however it will be sometime next week before a truck can be scheduled to have them deliver it. I proposed driving it home, and the dealer said that would be fine (of course they did!).

It is about 4.5 miles from one end of town where the dealer is located, to the other end of town where I am located. I live in a relatively small country town. Driving on the streets is not my concern.

My concern(s) are:

Driving a new tractor with a fresh engine for a while at top (near top) speed.

Does anyone see any issues driving down the road at top (near top) speed with a rotary cutter hanging on the back of the 3 point hitch?

I haven't been doing this long enough to know where the lines are of being OK and being stupid.

Appreciate the comments.

Why endanger other people's lives from unsuspecting or unattentative drivers? I am doubting your tractor is road legal. It happens.

If it's a brand new tractor as in only a couple of hours on the engine then you will want to vary the rpms as you travel. Don't just set it at one rpm range and leave it there the entire time. Vary the rpms by a good 500 +/- every 1/10 of a mile or so.

No,you gotta get that top speed out of your head though.Takes as long as it takes, you gotta know, the person behind you is just going to 7/11.

Obtain a slow vehicle placard, read the owners manual regarding ideal rpm's for during engine break in, pack a cooler with the necessities required for the grueling 20-30 minute trip and watch out for the dead raccoons, skunks, porcupines and tire deflating metal objects on the shoulder of the road. Might also try mowing a a few yards on the way to help offset the fuel costs.

I wouldn't hesitate at all to drive it home, but then your traffic situation might be different than mine.

Sure a lot of kidding going on here. :D

A couple weeks ago we were hearing about the 100 mile drive on a tractor. :)

This one is a piece of cake.

Should come equipped with the SMV sign from the dealer.

Enjoy the ride.
