Driving new tractor home from dealer

The OP is in Illinois and once you get outside the Chicago metro area, during corn and bean harvest there are darn near as many tractors on the road as cars. He will not have any worries.

Isn't the engine of a new tractor broke in at the factory?

Make sure you hit a drive-thru of some sort on the way!

This is no big deal at all!! I'm no tractor expert, & even I know this is no problem.

The cutter will be no problem at all. Just raise it all the way up & go.

Tractors are allowed to ride on roads (except Interstates).

Just make sure you look over your shoulder often so you can pull off to the side a little (or all the way if needed) to let cars by when they've come up behind you.

Turn all your lights on. Use your turn signals.

Drive as defensively as possible. As much as a motorcyclist "should" (except they don't always) ... even though you'd fare far better in a crash with a car than a motorcyclist.

Bring sunglasses, a hat & a soda! Might be sunny! Might get hot!

Enjoy!!

go for it. I've driven further to borrow a piece of equipment. Farmer down the road takes his front end loader down the road every day with feed for cows at another location. Then there are the combines,etc... Roads weren't built just for cars you know. If you live in a place where it's illegal to run a tractor down a road, I'd hate to live there.

Dude, if I lived 4 miles from the dealer it woulda already had it home. 4 miles ain't hardly worth trailering it up !

Doesn't matter for dead people. Regardless of the roads. Just sayin'.

Why would there be dead people? Bit of a leap, just sayin'.

If someone died everytime a tractor was driven down the road in IL there wouldn't be anyone left.

In NY we have 'R' permits that allow tractors on the roads, there is the familiar reflective triangle and flashers must be on. Check your DMV (you can send them an email) and ask them what the liabilities are.

Rob

An 'R' permit is an overweight permit for a tandem, triaxle, or tractor-trailer truck. Nothing to do with agricultural machines.
