Cool Dave!
I have one of those Milwaukee saws.

I thought it might be nice to have one for my Milwaukee and Porter saws till I thought about the limited size range compared to the cheap harbor freight saws, plus the fact that I have too many saws already. Might be a good item for someone with limited cutting tools. What makes the portaband great is it's portbility. When you mount it, is becomes a little less of a great saw when compared to what else is available. David from jax

That's the beauty. Unmount it, and it is portable.

Invest in a cheap HF horizontal and keep the portaband free so I don't have to spend time dismounting it every time the job changes?

Sorry, but I dont do cheap tools. I'd rather have a nice Lenox Hacksaw then a HF Horiz. Bandsaw.
Every time I think about saving a few bucks and I buy a HF something I remember why I hate cheap tools. Does my electric die grinder work? yeah..barely...its nothing compared to my dad's Milwaukee.

10 seconds to unthread the hand nut and I have my REAL Porta-Band back. Even without all the other BS...the new "fence" that comes with this kit is SLICK!

i also tend to buy quality tools because the odds are better that it probably won't fail at the worst moment, but there's always exceptions. my father has a milwaukee porta band, and i've used it a bunch of times when helping him at his place. in my garage i have a harbor freight 4x6 horizontal bandsaw. for my money, it's a no brainer. unless i needed it in the field, i'd take the harbor freight any day, and twice on weekends. straighter cut, bigger capacity, and just a hair less money. for long, heavy stock, the gravity feed is great. trying to manually push a large piece across a table or control a handheld cut is much harder.

in my mind, both have their place. quality wise, sure, the milwaukee is going to be better. my hf horizontal bandsaw is a 2001 model and even though it looks cheap, it does cut well. if milwaukee (or another big name tool company) made home-shop sized tools i'd probably spring for the extra to buy them, but since they don't, we all have to rely on taiwan and china for our equipment. i just bought a 19 year old rf-30 mill/drill with a bunch of tooling for $550. while not cheap, it's reasonably inexpensive, and should be good enough quality for my work. it's also the only thing out there in the size i want.
