Cadillac of tractors?

I think the newer Mustang Gt's will run in the mid 14's, but not the older ones. You can ignore what times magazines say they will run, they are usually the best of several runs and often corrected to sea level and a certain temp. I have seen enough "stock cars" race with inexperienced drivers to see what kind of times cars really turn. Dargo, keep in mind, your truck ain't stock. I bet if you put it on a dyno, your making over 500 h.p. at the rear wheels. I bet you were making almost twice the h.p. of that Mustang and even more than double on the torque side of things. I remeber the video of that run, and it still blows me away.

There is just no way around it, a turbo will add horsepower. It will also increase the efficency of the engine, but not always the fuel consumption per horsepower.

It is also about getting the tires to hold. (Not that a stock Mustang is anything real exciting.)

I heard the new Mustang's have been redesigned a bit because the Taurus SHO All Wheel Drive would smoke 'em if they weren't. Don't know if it is true or not, but I do know the SHO is fast. With AWD, you wont lose traction.

I grew up in the farm equipment biz....and you are right about a utility tractor for ag use. But the little N size tractors were utility tractors in their time.....which would be small according to your standards. While their may not be much "ag utility" in a CUT.....I can assure you thier is plenty of utility for the owners. A compact segment didnt really exist until the 70's IRRC. I also first saw the CUT term used on this site.....It grows on you.:laughing:

Good post Foggy.

Just by the shear number of attachments available, these tractors are definitely "utility".

Loader, backhoe, mower, trencher, auger, snow blower, tiller, tow, etc.........

To the O.P. great choice on your tractor. If thats what you end up getting, post some pictures of it.

I'd say this thread may have taken a little drift to say the least.

The argument for turbo vs non turbo is pointless. In smaller tractors, its cheaper just to bump up the displacement to get more h.p. In larger machines, its cheaper to add a turbo to get more h.p. Turbos are a proven technology. This isn't cutting edge technology so the argument for or against is pointless. It's up to each tractor maker to decide what is the best way to get more h.p., bigger engine or a turbo. The question is at what level of power requirment is a turbo cost effictive?

I don't think so. It was a good debate and I for one learned serveral things about the new turbos. In fact if i'm looking at a tractor and it has one I'm not going to immediately walk away based on past interaction with them.

Thanks everyone, it was great!

Dollar for dollar, a Mustang will destroy a 'Vette or Cadillac anytime.

And pound for pound, my bench press is better than guys that outweigh me by 25 lbs, but they can still bench press more than me.

Besides, the CTS will not only beat the mustang in a race, but it'll ride 5 times smoother and the passengers in the back seat can be more than 4 feet tall.

So it's worth more money because you get a bigger, more comfortable and faster car.

I drove a CTS, and to be honest, I thought it was kind of slow. We were comparing it to my wifes 300C. They make a CTS-V that is pretty quick. I don't think a CTS would beat any kind of V8 Mustang, but the CTS-V probably would. The problem is the CTS-V is only available as a stick, which is something my wife doesn't want.

Article says automatic or manual is available:

"The second generation Cadillac CTS-V was officially unveiled today, prior to the sport sedan痴 public debut at the Detroit Show. Leaving the 鉄EMA Show - inspired exterior looks aside, the CTS-V is equipped with a detuned version of the 2009 Corvette ZR1痴 (click here) new 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that generates an estimated 550 HP and 550 lb.-ft. (745 Nm) of torque. Transmission choices include either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. "

Orginally the CTSV was available only with a 6 speed stick as I recall. The newer ones have changed and they must have designed an auto that would take the H.P. We drove a CTS a few weeks ago and liked the car a lot, it just didn't have the power of a late model Hemi. I'll ad that we drove a Challenger RT and a 300C SRT8 the same day, so the V6 in the CTS seemed a little weak but still had pretty good zip.

The best tractor is the one that suits you best . When it comes to farm tractors i've found the fendt's and valtra's and such to be very overrated and overpriced . They all have their faults and have all made good and bad models , We had 9 JD's in the 70's and have worked our way through fords,MF's, IH's and many others and ended up with a yard with 5 different colours of the models we like best . I've always thought MF were the nicest from a drivers point of view but maybe lack resale value like ford but to me buying used makes them even more attractive . As for deeres resale value i think IH probably beat them now for most models but depends heavily on area i guess .
For combines it would seem obvious that IH rotary is #1 and JCB for backhoes .
