Welcome to TBN Steve:D

Used 'hoes (like the one your looking for:laughing:) are few and far between...especially a new model like the 445.

Welcome to TBN! Are you buying a new 4120? With an aftermarket cab? Perry, Laurin, etc.?

The 485 backhoe will work with the factory JD cab. 'Course JD doesn't offer a cab with the 4120.

I'd guess that the 485 will work with aftermarket cabs - but not certain of that - no idea if the earlier model of JD backhoes - 448 and the 48 - will accomodate a cab; since the mounting frame for those models was never designed for a cab at all, whereas the 485 frame was specifically designed for use with a cab as well as the open station.

If you're buying a new tractor - you can expect to pay below MSRP as part of the tractor package for the backhoe, too.

Because the 485 is a recent addition to the JD CUT lineup; used backhoes are very few and far between... You might be waiting for a few YEARS to find a good deal on a good condition 485 hoe.

I agree with AK, the 485 is too new to find one used, even the 448 is too new.
The 485 is not cheap either, I don't blame you for wanting a used one. I think mine came in around 9k with the thumb.

The 485 hoe is no different than the earlier 448 hoe. The only difference is the mounting brackets that bolt to the tractor itself have to be slightly modified to fit the cab tractors. I know this because I have a 448 and when I bought the new cabed 4520 they said it would not work. I spent about 1.5 hours modifying the old brackets to work on the new tractor. The tops of the brackets themselves just have to be cut down a little and the shifting cable bracket on the left side relocated. If you can by an older 448 or a 485 try to get the brackets with it even if you have to modify them.. They are about $1800 new. I don't know if the 4120 has the same bolt pattern on the rear housing for the brackets as the 4520 but if it does it will work.

That's a good point, it's best to check exactly why "you can't use it on your tractor". Sometimes it's just a small mod.

The 2010, 485 also has a slightly different center bracket to take the new thumb now. I've seen it.
