I'm looking at buying a 2000 Polaris Trailblazer and the guy said the factory 2-stroke oil tank was disconnected. The guy said he just pre-mixed the gas. Is this a easy fix. And has anybody ever heard of premixing gas for a quad?

Unless you do a lot of trail riding where you are riding right to the gas station, I prefer to pre-mix the gas. I along with many others can tell you what happens when the oil pump stops working (and it will) and the engine gets straight gas. You get about a couple more hours of riding or less then boom, there goes your pistons, rings, sleeves, etc...

I don't trust them or use them. Just keep pre-mixing the gas.

My neighbor has one of those..He pre-mixes...That thing screams. Good machine.

I agree that the oil injector will quit and you will be the picture of misery when it does. Mixing is much safer.

Thanks guys. I had never heard of pre mixing gas for a quad before. But that is a good idea because if that oil pump goes out and you don't know it your shot.

Has anybody heard of any problems with these?

The neighbor's starter went bad I believe that was the only issue. he bought a Sportsman 700 and gave the older one to his son...He runs it daily.

i almost bought a trailblazer some years back - right around 2001 i think. while i was debating the deal, the dealer called me back because they had taken in a couple year old 400 scrambler 4x4, which i ended up buying for about the same price as the trailblazer. that was also a 2-stroke, and i used it with the factory oil injection pump and never had an issue.

i would guess that if the injection system is not connected, then it is more likely a pump issue and not just a tank issue. assuming this is not some sort of performance modified machine, if it still works, i'd opt for the injection pump setup for ease of use. we've been using oil injection for 20+ years in snowmobiles with no issues, even on very old sleds. there's no reason to distrust it on an atv.

i find that it's often safer having things that run on straight gas, especially when they were intended to in the first place. if you had friends/family around, it's often likely that it could get filled with straight gas because that's what it is intended to run on. many people might not even consider having to use premix in today's age. that said, there's no reason that it's not perfectly reasonable to use it with premix. just a preference.

I have a 1987 Polaris Trail Boss and have never had any problem with the oil unit working as designed by the factory. It is much easier for me just to fill the oil tank and put gas in the gas tank. 23 years with no problems.

I would keep mixing the gas like the rest of the folks say. I just rebuilt one of these quads not long ago because the little rubber hose that injects the oil into the carburetor came off. It didnt mean that the tank was broke or the pump was out, everything was working as it was suppost to, but because the hose came off it ran on gas only and melted the rings to the piston. If you mix it in with the gas you know its going into the engine where it's suppost to be. To me its good insurance and a piece of mind knowing its in there and not depending on the oil injection system to put it in there for you. Just my 2 cents from experience.
