GC2410tlb or gc2610tlb

After much research and using a kubota for a week, I think I have settled on the MF GC series tlb. Is there any real performance difference between the GC2410tlb and the GC2610tlb. Local dealer has a 2410 for 16,800 now and will have more of both in August. I'm not in a hurry to buy right now. Any facts and/or opinions appreciated.

The 2410 is enough for me. It cuts high/wet grass fine, the FEL lifts/dumps quickly enough, and any additional HP for the backhoe would be useless b/c the hoe is already powerful enough to throw the entire tractor around. Not sure why they offer two very similar tractors. I would think it would be cheaper to split the difference and build one model (ooooohhhhh they could have called it the 2510). I can't imagine it costing that much more to up the HP on the 2410 to justify the price difference. Anyhow, I would have liked to get the 2610 just b/c I'm a sucker for HP-ratings, but I had a hard enough time talking the wife into spending as much as I did and the 2410 has plenty of power.

If you can wait, try them both, and then decide.

The 2410 and 2610 are the exact same machines except different warrant and different RPM. Also, the injecter pump has been tweaked a little, I have been told that once the warranty is done I can turn my 2410 into a 2610 by the turn of a screw.

Assuming are spec's are to be believed the PTO's would be geared sligthly different between the two tractors as well. The 2610 provides the equivalent pto rpm's at a higer engine rpm.

My dealer, who told me he serves on some kind of Massey-Ferguson oversight engineering committee, said the 2610 was not worth the extra money. This was one case where the dealer did NOT try to get me to upgrade! The 2410 is PLENTY of machine. I can say it's done all I've asked for so far and then some.

I wouldn't exactly say it's not worth the ewxtra money cause you do get an extra years warrany from what I've read and the exra PTO HP comes in handy.

Regarding the warranty, I don't find mention of any difference for the 26XX tractors from the rest of the GC series. The warranty sheet I have describes a base warranty of 2 years or 2000 hours for the "GC Series Sub Compacts" and 12 months for the loader and backhoe. If you want more warranty, be sure to check this out thoroughly before buying.

from what i understand the engines are totally different. the small one is iseki, the larger one is mitsubishi.

not saying the 2410 can't be 'turned up' though:)

No. They are both identical Iseki. This is based on the owner's manual which lists both units, looking at both in person at a dealer and from what I have been told by the lead mechanic at the dealer. Warranty is the same for both units. The 2600 is governed to allow higher rpm and the pto is geared lower such that pto speed is achieved at a higher engine rpm. The tractors are virtually identical (differences are PTO gearing, max engine rpm and engine speed for hour meter accumulation rate) based on the specs and discussion with the dealer.

You are correct the 24xx can be "turned up" to 26xx speed and subsequent power. My dealer offered to do this if I wanted. Said it would take a few minutes. Won't change pto gearing however.

well, imagine the embarrassed look on the face of the salesman who told me the 2610 was mitsubishi:laughing:

If it comes up again reach into the pouch on the back of the seat and pull out the owner's manual. In the specs section, the very first line at the top of the page is engine make. On the cover it says the same manual applies to all four models in the GC series.

It's too bad so many tractors sales people get things wrong, unintentionally or otherwise.
