just purchased a tg1860g with a 48'' deck. its a 1998 that was purchased new in 2001. i took it to the dealer near me for some parts and i found out the owener had taken it in to a different dealer saying he thought the transmision was loud and declined the repair. i found this out only after the secratary went outside and wrote down my serial no. and called the other dealer. the head of maint. at the kuboa dealer i was at got on mine and rode it around and said he didnt find any thing wrong. " he'd run it ". it has 88 hrs on it. i wonder how many tg1860's out there have had hydrostatic problems. this guy told me you dont repair it. you dont do anything to it. like replace the filter or anything. said it was to hard to get the pump to pick the fluid back up. $2000 for a new one. $ 800 more to have them put it in.

Sounds kind of weird. Why did the secretary phone the other dealer? How could the original owner decline a repair if he didn't let the other dealer look at it- they couldn't even know if it needed a repair. Why would the other dealer pass on this kind of information? My experience with dealers is they have lousy records, how come this guy records the details of his conversations. And what does he mean by "hard to get the pump to pick the fluid back up". Does he mean on all transmissions in this model? If so, what's the point repairing it, sounds like a design problem. None of this sounds quite right.

What the service guy was saying is there has been trouble with the tg's I know as I bailed on mine after 1 season and bought my BX1830. I couldn't put my finger on what was wrong with the tg but it 's transmission didn't seem as roust as the BX, and at that time it didn't have 4wd (glide steer). In any case I just didn't like the tg. One thing the trans doesn't keep very much oil in the resovouir as the BX.
Love my BX!

Love my BX!

I would hate to see the costs of a rear differential from a compact in a lawn mower!
