TBN Jacket to be auctioned off. Advice needed.

/ TBN Jacket to be auctioned off. Advice needed. #11
I would start a "BID ONLY" thread and a "Auction Discussion" thread... I would not limit the bid... I was planning to start around $2 or 300... (and not saying what I would go up to) but I'll see how it goes...

and links can be added to signatures like this below

$300 ???

TEG you're richer than me!!!

Hey guys,

Unfortunately we can't allow auctions to take place in the forums as there are some potential liability issues for us.

I PM'd tallyho8 with my recommendation on how best to auction off the jacket.

I was disappointed that I will not be allowed to auction the jacket on TBN but I guess I can understand their position. I know many of you would have preferred to have the auction here on your favorite web site but we will still discuss it here on the thread as it progresses.

I will probably have to auction it on ebay and link to it from a thread on TBN where we can discuss the auction as it progresses. There is a limit of 10 days on Ebay auctions so we have to let people know about the auction before it starts so everyone can participate.

The main thing I don't like about typical Ebay auctions is that everyone waits for the last second to bid and so it is not too interesting so I am hoping everyone will start bidding early to keep it interesting.

Since I leave for a 2 week vacation next week and will have no access to phones or internet while I am away, I will have to start the auction after I get back in about 3 weeks. Don't worry, you will have your jacket before it gets cold and definitely before the oil gets cleaned up. :)

I've had great success selling many things on eBay with all my starting bids at 10 cents & with no reserve ... including a Honda sportbike & a boat. The sportbike sold right at what I thought it was worth, & the boat went for $5,500 when I thought I'd be lucky to get $3,500.

Yes, it's a gamble this way. But I've been happy with the results every time.

I really think you get what the market really thinks its worth when you do it that way.

My 2 cents.

That's why I suggest starting the bidding at say 10 cents. Certainly you will get many bids starting at that low level all the way up through, I dunno, say 10 bucks ... The 10 dollar level isn't the key part; It's the fact that your "Number of Bids" will total like 28 for example, which will make other bidders say, "Woah!, what's this all about?!" & look into it.

I have much success with Ebay also as I have feedback in excess of 1200+ but I just think it would be more fun for all if TBN allowed the auction there.

I think only TBN people will be bidding on it because they are so generous that the bids will probably be much more than the jacket is worth. :D

If the TBN owners change their mind before I list it on Ebay, I will be glad to have the auction here. ;)
