Perhaps the question should be, "How much tension is on the belt normally?"
When I pull on a 1" strap looped through the belt to slip it over an end pulley I put both feet against the unit, but don't really have to pull hard. All it does is move the big vertical pulley lower against the spring and allow some play. To suggest I am stretching it and damaging the kevlar belt is to exaggerate my prowess considerably, I'd think.
The tensioning spring works well to keep the belt snug while mowing (guards currently off for observation), but it's not all that robust.
