Can I pull it with my Titan?

More important than "how much can I tow" is "how much can I CONTROL IN AN EMERGENCY maneuver".

It also depends (IMO) on how far and how fast and how frequent you are going to tow. Going a few miles at slow speed on straight, flat roads a couple of times a year is different than towing 40-50 miles on a curvy, hilly country road at 50 mph.

"Properly equipped" also include a weight distributing hitch setup.

Generally RVs are lightweight construction. Even a big 5th wheel is likely under 6-7000#.

For reference purposes, a 7000# bumper hitch car hauler weighs around 2500#. For hauling 8500#, I have a 14,000 gvw gooseneck that weighs around 5000#. It tows very well....on a one ton dually!. No way would I haul an 8500# tractor with anything less unless I was only going a few miles and very slowly.

If you go for a tractor in that size it is LIKELY that you will also want to go to a gooseneck trailer.
A limiting factor is usually what the truck can "carry" on the ball in the bed as "payload".
This is often exceeded before the "what it can pull" limit is reached in 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks.
Opinions vary (on this and most other subjects) but figure that the truck should be capable of "carrying" somewhere between 20% and 25% of the loaded trailer's weight on the ball.
Likely over a ton in this case and I doubt that the Titan can carry that.

Can we say "Duallie" ?
I knew we could (-:

I guess it depends on what you consider "big". My 1988 32' Carri-Lite had 7,300 lbs. on the axles and 2,500 on the pin, as I had it equipped and loaded. But the current ones start at 36' and start with a "dry" weight of over 14,000 lbs. I have a brother living in an older 38' Carriage that weighs over 18,000 pounds.

I'm behind the times, but I'd be very hesitant to pull anything near 10K with a 1/2 ton. I've pulled 15K with a 3/4 ton and that was too much for sure.

I sit back and wonder about the new trucks, and it is tough to believe some of the 5th wheel campers guys are pulling with 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks.

Just seems like throwing an arrow backwards, and I'm guilty along with the rest of them.

I'd be comfortable with 5,000 - 7,000 lbs behind a 1/2 ton (correct motor, tranny and all).

7,000 - 12,000 behind a 3/4 ton

12,000 - 15,000 behind a 1 ton

And then commercial grade for much more than that.

I know I'm wrong technically based on some of the specs but man those trucks seem light to be pulling so much weight.

Well said.

So......? Are you trying to say he needs dually to tow that tractor?

A dually & goose would be great but certainly not necessary.

And here I thought you were a blue oval man. :)

When it comes to HD trucks I am. I looked at all the 1/2 tons in 09 and to me the Titan was hands down the best truck with its strong engine, low end torque, great interior, nice bed with factory sprayed in bed liner and tie down track system, Dana Axles, Detroit lockers, ect.

Here is the new shirt. Saw it at the museum with the kids yesterday and got tons of chuckles and complements.

they usually include things like extra large tranny cooler, diff cooler, WD hitch, break controller, class 4 hitch, frame reinforcement etc

can also include things like
taller rear end gears
air bags
not the shinny bling bling 20" rims/tires (ie only on load range D/E tire option)
with the "big engine"
no additional cargo or passengers

basicly the stuff that comes on the "BIG TOW PACKAGE"

are people still blowing up the rear ends on those left and right?

Things like air bags are not a option on any factory tow package I have seen.

Its usually low gear ratio, big engine, tranny cooler, power steering cooler, proper hitch, heavy suspension, ect.

As for rear ends blowing up I have well over 35 customers pulling 8,000 to 10,000# boats with 1/2 ton trucks and SUV's from all 5 manufactures and in 20 plus years have never seen one tear up the rear end. A few with tranny problems and thats it.

As said before the 1/2 tons of the last 4 years are more trucks than any 3/4 ton of 12 years ago with a gas engine. Its a whole new game.

I'm just saying that;
1) The limiting factor with 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks is usually the payload, not the towed weight.
2) The short cut to increased payload capacity is often a duallie.

Whether or not he "needs" a duallie... ?
He probably "NEEDS" to do the arithmetic, then he will KNOW.

Nice shirt, too bad Ford used $5.9 Billion of our tax money for fuel efficient vehicle "research".

Totally different and you know it. It was a grant to do development, not a loan to keep the doors open. Keep telling yourself whatever makes you feel better though.:laughing::laughing:
