Backhoe question

I looked at a New Holland 1925 with loader and Backhoe attachment today, asking price $10,500, 1000 hours. I have some questions. I've never used a backhoe, but this one only moves with one lever at a time. If two levers are used it will ignore one of them. Is this by design or is there a problem? Next question. The 3-point arms would not raise with the lever. Are they somehow disabled when the hoe is attached, or is there a problem with the 3-point?

Yes, as Egon says, those are features, not bugs. Sounds like a good deal,
if everything is in decent shape.

Your tractor has only one implement pump, so using more than one spool
valve at a time will require some feathering and practice. Many many
tractors power their hoes by bypassing the 3-pt in the hydraulic circuit.
Re-enabling the 3-pt when the hoe is detached is usually easy.

Did you get an owner's manual?

Thanks for the replies. No manual is available. My last tractor was a JD950, 30 horse with bigger tires and wheelbase than this one. I was wondering if this New Holland 1925 will handle the same workload, it seems small in the frame and wheelbase. I'm on hilly terrain and like a wider/longer footprint. I was thinking of buying this to do some side jobs, which would help pay for it. Think I can tow this with a 1/2 ton F150/small V-8?

If it's really smaller than the JD950 -- yah, your 1/2 ton PU should be able to tow it. I had a JD 970 TLB and hauled it on a 7,000 lb trailer without any issues.

That sounds really lame to me. I don't think the pump puts out enough gpm to use the hoe properly. Why wouldn't the three point work independently unless it is diverted. I never heard of a senario like that. This is the reason alot of compacts have pto hydraulic pumps attached due to the low volume internal system.

Once upon a time compact tractors had implement pumps that put out
only 3-4 GPM. That low flow limited the speed of hydraulic cylinders over
2 inches in diameter. That was one reason you saw a lot of PTO pump
systems sold. That is no longer true. Now many CUTs put out 6-9 GPM,
which is plenty of flow. Even the 1925 probably puts out at least 5GPM,
way more than say a Ford 8N.

Bypassing the 3-pt cyl for backhoe power is quite common, and the 3PH
is not usable with the hoe attached anyway. What's lame about that?
