Our King Apple Tree

Here's a photo of our King Apple tree after some pruning. We think this tree is about 80 or 90 years old. When we first moved in, it was in sorry shape. Had not been pruned in years and was about twice as tall and very congested. We've been slowly been pruning it back a little each year and have removed a couple of large branches on the leaning side to keep it from tipping over. Our neighbor has a the same tree which was planted at the same time and had a similar lean to it...they never pruned it and last year it fell over. Our tree has produced hundreds of pounds of apples each year and provides a great place to sit under and relax. I love this tree.

Shimon...What kind of camera do you use and or what technique do you use to produce such really nice pictures..They have a Norman Rockwell quality to them..Great photograph and the picture almost looks like a painting..

This was taken with a Nikon D300 and 12-24 f/4 lens.

The technique used multiple images shot at different exposures to allow you to capture a scene as you actually see it. Most cameras cannot capture the full dynamic range of a typical sunlit scene and will usually have to compromise by blowing out the sky to white or burying the shadow areas in darkness. By taking three shots (one properly exposed, one under exposed so the sky looks right, one over exposed so the shadow areas look right) and then merging them, you can create an image the way our eyes actually viewed the scene. This technique is called High Dynamic Range Imaging.

No. This was taken at the end of April. The tree is full of small apples now.
