I Have a Newholland tc30 4wd with 9x3 gears and has about 360hrs on it. I letmy brother in law borrow the tractor to do some work and when he returned it I noticed two problems. First was the tie rod on the left side (sitting in the seat) looked like it was bent. I did not see any marks on it and I cant remember if it always had the bend in it. The second was with the clutch. I went to bush hog and noticed that the rear pto was hard to get into gear. It grinded gears while I was trying to put it into gear. I also noticed that after depressing the clutch the pto was still being powered. The clutch pedal aslo had alot of free travel. It always had some but it was worse. I adjusted the clutch linkage and it seemed that this fixed the problem. My questions are is the tie rod suppose to be bent? And should the clutch linkage need adjusting after only 360hrs? I had a 1720 ford with 1800hrs and never adjusted the clutch linkage. Also how much free play is desired. What I did was disconnect the linkage and push the clutch lever (on the housing)with my finger down until it showed resistance. The pedal has around one inch of free play in it.
