Hi! I am somewhat new round here and I have some questions about adding TNT to my GrandL3940.
Now for some background.
I have searched and read a great number of threads but I'm not clear about whether I need power beyond (BYD) on a control valve (CV).
This past year I had my dealer add a BH90 backhoe, so I have hydraulic connections at the back of the tractor used to power the backhoe when installed and looped together when the backhoe is removed. (2 connections - pressure and return goes to the 3PH)

What I want to do is install a "3 SPOOL 24 GPM NIMCO OC W/PWR BYD VALVE W/JOYSTICK" or similar to control a TNT and leave me with an extra valve for future use. I would like to insert the CV in the existing hydraulic loop. The idea being that I would install the TNT and connect the valve into the loop when the backhoe is removed and remove it when the backhoe is installed.

My questions:
The NIMCO CV shows three ports IN, BYD, and Tank in addition to the work ports, I only wish to use 2 non-work port connections to the valve IN and ? Will the CV work with the tank port plugged or the BYD port plugged? If so, which do I plug? If neither the BYD or Tank ports can be plugged can they be teed together? I do not wish to add a third hose to CV that has to be disconnected when the BH is installed.

In this instance is there a need for the CV to have BYD? The 3PH is the only thing downstream. Maybe I need a different CV?

Also, I read something about the danger of a CV痴 output seeing pressure caused by a downstream CV. I assume that this is only a problem when a work port is open so that would mean in this scenario that I should not use the TNT and the 3PH at the same time? Or am I out in left field?

Plus any additional wisdom you wish to impart.

Thanks for the help in advance.

You will need the power beyond for the valve. The power beyond will feed the 3PH when the valve is installed. The tank port is for the fluid returning from the work ports and connects to the hydraulic resivior (tank). This is a needed function, however, it could be connected and disconnected by way of a quick disconnect (QD) to make installation and removal easier. When disconnected the QD is sealed preventing any leakage.

If you don't mind my asking, where did you find that valve? I really like the setup on it. I'll be adding a TNT this winter and this is the first valve I've seen that I really like the way it is set up.

You can find the valve at Surplus Center, search for "joystick."

I spoke with one of the tech folks at Surplus Center and he told me that I can tee the BYD and Tank ports together so I can maintain 1 pressure and 1 return. That will work for me. Now I need to start figuring out the rest of the setup.

Item Number 9-7761 at the Surplus Center.

I have two issues with this valve:

1> It has a "fixed" PRV setting of 1885 PSI. Most newer CUT's operate at closer to 2500 PSI.
2> It's a Nimco. Search that name here, many threads on not being able to get parts if you need them.

You really should use a PB equipped valve whenever possible. When your hoe is mounted, does the 3PH work? Some machine have two separate returns-one for when the hoe is mounted that goes directly to the tank bypassing the 3PH, and the other for when the hoe is not mounted to feeds the 3PH.

Good catch, Kenny. That is clearly the wrong valve to put on a Grand L.
Unless the RV can be customized for greater pressure.

Many hoes are installed where the OUT from the hoe valve goes to the
IN of the 3-pt cylinder. That is technically incorrect as you state, but
you can get away with it since the 3-pt is not being used. Some
tractors (like Kubotas) do not have a lot of uncommitted ports to
connect a low pressure return-to-tank hose.

I found it last night and it won't work for me anyway. I need a CC valve assembly for my 2240 as well as the higher pressure. I sure like the way they have it set up though. Nearly all the valves I find have the work ports on top and that won't work for what I need. I do like the single valve beside the joystick. Nice setup for a TNT.

Look at the Prince SV series Stack valves. More money, but you can build a valve exactly how you want/need it. You can even add a joystick between two of the spools. You also should sign up to get he SC catalog, it's very good.

Been looking at those, but again, seems like the work ports are on top.:(
