New Holland TC40DA
Looking at a New Holland TC40DA. Tractor has always been stored inside.FEL but is not a SS quick attach. &@" bucket, looks like it has never held a grain of sand. No rear remote. Well my deal is starting to maybe fall apart, The tractor is being sold by the owners brother in law, owner moved out of state and now lives down south in a condo (we are in Michigan) was told the tractor is a 2006 but the owner called me and said "NO it's a 2004, here was the deal, the tractor looks like new, 419 hours and was used to mow his ten acre yard and private golf holes, I was going to get a 7 foot back blade, 6 foot disk, 8 foot box blade and 2 bottom plow, these tools where stored outside, have surface rust, but are all in real good shape. price was $19,000. Now that I know it's a 2004, how much should I think about dropping my offer?

I can tell you that my dad just bought a 2006 TC45 with 760hours (4WD, Shuttle-shift transmission) w/FEL, no rear remotes, no-filled tires, with 2 bottom plow, 6ft rototiller, 6ft brush hog for $16000. Tractor had been kept outside but was in good/very good condition.

Two years on a tractor's age is NOT going to affect the price hardly any.

They don't depreciate like cars, boats, etc.

You have to kind of recalibrate your thinking when it comes to a piece of equipment that is going to far outlast most other 'durable' goods.

You may get them to drop some, just don't think that you'll lower your offer by $3K or so.

If the tractor is in as good as shape as you've reported, take the deal and be happy. Seems like from what I've been reading on other posts on this board, used is running at premium prices right now.

Try to dicker to hard and you might put yourself right out of a solid and fare deal.

You'll get other advice, so read, deliberate, and go with your gut.

Wish you well on your endeavor.

going with the gut is a great reasoning, I have looked at a ton of tractors and this is the first one that I was even willing to make a offer on, most, when told it looked brand new on the phone, drive 100 miles to look at it and looks like it was used in a coal mine.
going to call the dealer where it came from today to find out the service record.
On the TC40 is there any difference between 04 and 06?
thanks guys for any advice.

A 2004 DA model should not be much different from a 2006 DA. You might offer $1000 less to see if they will take it. If they won't budge, then I think you would certainly not be hurt by their price based on what you said about the loader. The implements you listed add $1500 to $2000 to the price, so you are paying about $16,500 for a tractor that sold new for about $23,500 to $24,000. The major thing you are missing from new is the warranty, so make sure you check everthing to your satisfaction and then make your best deal.

You can get a few dollars in return by selling the box blade. A TC40DA needs a 6 ft. box blade.

well after a long talk with the owner I agreed to the full price,Oh and the rears are loaded, he did tell me after taking it in for a recall in 2006 and got it back, he found that the cruise did not work, he called the dealer (who was quite a way away and they said they most likely forgot to re-hook the wires , bring it back and they would fix it, but since he never used it and he would have to hire to return it he didn't do it, so what should I be checking on that before i hand over a check, (not that I would use it much either) He used the 8 foot box blade for pulling snow.down the drive then used the FEL to pile it up.

See the diagram below: #1 is the "donut" magnet and #2 is the plug on the end of he pigtail. This view is from the top and you won't be able to see it this way because of the operator platform. When you look up from the bottom, you will see a big plate like a "B" laying on it's side. Behind that plate is the magnet. See the second picture below with the plug being near the arrow. The third photo is with the "B" plate removed and you can see the magnet clearly. You'll need a good flashlight to inspect this area when laying under the tractor while looking up.

well, I final got it home, yah, but I had to give it to my wife for a 26th wedding anniversary present, but she loves me so much she let me move some dirt and put the brush hog I got her for Christmas last year, I hope tomorrow night to check the cruise stuff out, green light comes on, but doesn't stay on or make the cruise work.
I might have to go crossbow shopping for her birthday that is coming up, god I love that woman!!!!!

You should buy her something from Harbor Freight and have them ship it to her by name so that she will get at least one weekly catalog from them for the rest of her life. She'll be reminded weekly how much you love her without your ever having to buy a card or flowers.:laughing:
