Mowing You thought you had troubles mowing.

Not enough detail of the front part, but I would guess the winch might be to help with a one-man load into the trailer.

:cool:You all may not believe some of my old gezzer stories, but....when we first moved out of the city to my 3 acres in the country(35 yrs ago), all we had were the four kids, me and 3 push mowers. The kids worked their butts off doing stuff out here. When the weeds got really tall over the septic drain fields, I had to swing a scythe to get 'em down. Well, I was one of those poor saps mentioned above. But not any more. Anybody want to buy a scythe?

I also mowed with a cheapie mower for 3 or 4 years when we moved to the country. It did a good job, but just didn't hold up to the abuse. When I sold it the deck was shot, I don't know how many deck spindles I broke, 2 or 3, and the ones left on the deck were all cracked. All the steering needed replaced also. It was the rough ground and stumps I hit that abused it, not mowing grass that was too tall, which I did some of that also.

Some folks calls it a sling blade, I call it a kaiser blade...

I used to have one about the same year. It was called a RANCH KING. Bought it at the local farm and ranch store. I think it was a 1993 or 4 model. 42" cut, 12hp, single cyl engine, 3 forward speeds and 1 reverse. That thing lasted me until 2006. Never, I say never, replaced a belt on it! I did replace a couple of spindles though. Of course, I didn't do too much of that high grass mowing with it!:D

Anybody else wonder what the winch and fabricated structure on the front of that rig is for?

Is it a manually operated front snow plow? Colorado in the winter? Just wondering. Somebody went to some trouble to make that thing and I haven't seen a 20-yr old rider with anything like that before.

I hadn't thought about the plow; but I thought it could be some sort of loader contraption.

Another poster thought the guy used the winch to pull it onto his trailer. I doubt that since what the photos didn't capture was his ultra lightweight single axle utility trailer with a low deck height.

I feel for the poor guy. I used to be in his shoes. I keep a 6 acre field cut with a 26hp 54in cut Craftman lawn mower. It took me a good 8 hours to do. I did that every week during the summer for 4 yeas till I could buy a tractor. Now I can cut it in 2.5 hours and I can let it go for a month or two and still be able to cut it.
