Flail Mower New Caroni Flail

Would you recommend just removing them? (I'm buying the Caroni 6-footer this week or weekend)

I have left mine on but honestly the only thing they have ever done is snagged brush and gotten bent. I suppose that in theory they protect the edges of the mower when you set it down, especially if you leave it on the ground for storage but a couple of 2x4s would work as well.

I don't know what answer to give you but would point out that Caroni considers them an option. AgriSupply simply orders all their mowers from Caroni with that option.

Thats all that happened to mine as well.

This afternoon I noticed that the main roller came partially out of the cup on one end - dropped about 3/4 of an inch, but it still spins. I'm sure its held in by whatever remains of the bearing. I'll make a call to Agri Supply in the morning, but anyone seen this happen?

No I haven't seen it happen but it doesn't shock me. For starters the zerk to grease that bearing is completely inaccessible and even invisible if the roller is set at the lowest cut position (roller in highest position up tight to the deck) which is common for transport. If you never lower the roller to raise the cut height, you'd never know there was a zerk there to grease.

About the rear roller:

is the fitting rotating with the roller like the old JD flails or is it an end bearing?

you may have room to remove the fitting and install 2-2 straight fitting with a pipe male and a JIC male and have a hose made with a female ninety degree fitting and route the hose to a point where you can attach it with a loom clamp and self tapping screw and to secure it to the hood or running it to the front of the mower near the gearbox to allow easier greasing.

As I recall it rotates. The easiest fix is to lower the roller by at least one adjustment point as that will make the zerk easily accessible. Doing this will increase the cut height by an inch or less.

My dad is planning to try swapping out the straight OEM zerk fitting for an angled one. I'll report back if it fits/ works. He likes the roller set at the height that puts it directly in front of the zerk fitting.

You might try the slightly dropped roller position. I also liked the cut with the unmodified position but I honestly cannot tell the difference now that I changed it one slot to more easily grease the fitting.
