OK, since I'm new to the yanmars, what are the differances? And how do you tell? My 1500D is red and grey..is this a grey? is this Good, Bad or?

if you mean "grey" as in an imported tractor then yes the 1500D is a grey market tractor. not bad at all, parts are available and these are tough machines.

could be bad if it is a vietnam reconditioned tractor, then again could be fine. could you be a little more specific on where you got it , hours, etc?

Gray is a marketing term, not a paint color. It just means this is a model that Yanmar corp never sold in the US. So the ones you see here were brought over used, by individual importers.

There are so many 'gray market channel' Yanmars in the US that several dealers specialize in them, and the parts availability is excellent.

Green/Red on your model means first series/second series. Some parts are different in second series, so you always have to specify which when ordering parts.

(Not relevant to you, but Yanmar continued to put green paint on the tractors they shipped over to their US dealers, even after they switched to red paint on the same tractor model sold in Japan).

any pictures? my Yanmar is red and black but since it is a 169D i know it is made for the US market due to the model number and it's safety features. which way does your throttle work? when you pull it back, does it raise the RPMs? Mine is opposite where you push the throttle forward and it raises the RPMs. Which green are you refering to? some yanmars were a lighter green (YM240, YM2000, etc) and some were a darker green (YM1500d, YM1600d, etc).

wow...were will i find the ####'s? i have a tag on the engine. looks green and white. Not sure on the fuel feed lever...i think it's a pull back to raise the RPM, Hour meter and tach are on the right side..42 hours...but i bet it ahs been replaced.The guy i bought it from says it's a 92, but i don't think they made them past the late 80's. When i go up in the next week or so, I'll look some more...the clutch wont diengage..gota get the right!

What #'s are you looking for? All YM1500's were built '75-'79. The tach could have been replaced, (if a Vietnam rebuild), or it could have just turned over from 999. There should be a latch to lock your clutch pedal down. You will need to latch it, start the tractor in gear, drive around and slam on the brakes a few times, or whatever other means you can think of to break it free. Latch the pedal down when not in use for a while. The pressure plate, disk and flywheel will rust together from moisture.

All Yanmar's engine tags are green and white, so far as I know. They show engine model, sometimes with a suffix that means 'version 2' or something. And the engine serial # is stamped on the engine block near that tag.

Then there is a chassis # that is usually on the transmission by your left ankle.

You should have both the engine model/serial, and the chassis#, to order parts.

I've read that stuck clutches are common on these, because they worked in rice paddies and got water in there. It has never happened to me. Norm's instructions should get you going.
