Best Chainsaw for under $400??

I was just messing around with you and was trying to get you to guess :thumbsup:. Jonsered didnt even make it , it was another makers saw and E-lux had bought them up too. Hint hint. Jobu also relabled it as a version for their needs over in Norway.

Not sure what model it would be as I am not familiar with some of the many older saws, but it would either be a poulan or a partner. They were both taken over by electrolux in the late 70's to early 80's too.

Yep same saw as the P500. It is also nearly identical to the husky 50.

The S being in the name was sort or a common thing on them. When E-lux bought J-red, they bought the rights to the name jonsered and NOT jonsereds. But there were several saws that still had the S. Even the metal serial # tag said E-lux on it as well as JonseredS.

Just curious, does the metal tag say e-lux on it anywhere??

It is similar to the P500 or P5000 with different top ends, but it is actually like the Partner 5000 PLUS with same top end.

Top ends wont inter change on the 50, from what I learned it had to be a 50 special to inter change tops to make the 50 magnum that the dealers used in the past.

I have been picking Husqvarna 346xp pro saws for $400-$415 Power-head only on the last two I bought. I didnt want or need their 18" 325 bar or chain.

Ok mine was 369.99 and I got the entire saw, not just a "power head".

Is the $369.99 a recent price? I haven't seen one for under $400 anywhere I looked and I'm willing to order from your source.

A comment like that is like saying that chevy is the best truck ever, and that you will never own a GMC cause you've ad nothing but problems.

(instead of chevy/GMC, you could insert Forn/mercury, Chevy/Pontiac, Dodge/chrysler, or whatever your flavor)

Jonsered chainsaws are Made by Husqvarna. Just different plastic and name.

Totally agree. The 'brand x' is best arguments should have ended after we left school.

I am a Stihl owner (361/310/210) but also have a Husky 51. Husky because it was cheap in a pawn shop. Stihl because of dealer bu primarily because it is an inboard clutch. I will never, ever buy another outboard clutch saw again. (had several of them, mostly bottom of pro lines). Stick one and just try to get the power head off and then the cussing trying to adjust chain on them with a scrench.

Just personal opinion. When deciding on a saw the primary consideration should be "which brand has the best dealer near me".

Agree actual chainsaw shop is best especially when they buy a lot of good saws at a discount and pass the savings to you. I had searched eBay extensively for a PRO saw this spring, then called a local shop out of curiosity. Ended up with a husky 365 Special for about $450 brand new.
Call around, some shops are light years ahead of the others.

I have farm boss that is old enough it is still a 029. strong as ever and promise it will crank in 3 pulls right now and I haven't used it since last september. Not saying its better that others, just that it is far from junk.
