Venting the front axle on CUTs(with pics)

Sometimes things get pushed a bit far on the net.

For me this is an adventure in learning more than anything else. I likely would spend less time fixing the next seal leak than what I'm doing now... Re-engineering is fun!

I hear a lot of talk about how "I would do it" but let me ask, how many people can actually go into their shop and machine these parts?

The part I made has an H2 lathe cut thread so it's perfectly concentric with the shaft. It's not made by turning a piece of metal in a drill and threading it with a Chinese die from HF.

Can't on my tractor and most CUTS. Only about 3" clearance and that is reduced if the axle, which is hinged in the middle, rises on the side with the obtrusion or the guard.

And now you've added several extra parts to the design.

Hope you didn't build that and damage your tractor.

Not me, I want to get it done. It was fun to design but I have more interesting things to do.

I would be more curious to put a pressure Gage on one of the axles and see what the highest reading might be. Is it 5 pounds or 50 pounds?

The problem is that we know it's pushing oil out the seals so it's moot. Let's say we find out it's 12 lbs. of pressure, now what do we do? Now let's say that after another hour it builds to 18 lbs. What changes? Put a pressure gauge on the dash and run down and crack the dipstick if the pressure goes over a specific point?

What I might do is send an email off to Deere technical and ask them why they don't vent the box because it's more to me than just losing fluid it's sucking in dirt as the air in the axle contracts. And I'll tell you something, the first time I opened the dipstick, after running the tractor a few hours, I was shocked at how much pressure built up and escaped.

Did you ever read a manual that says "danger, do not overfill". That's because it causes all kinds of problems.
