Oh, the same "empirical physics" that thought the world was flat!

Them's that applied "Empirical Physics" did notice the mast was the last thing to disappear over the horizon.

The others?;well they may have thought the earth was flat?

Now for thems that want a vent line and a dipstick at the same time a short nipple, tee, coupling and plug with a dipstick welded to it should get you going on the same threaded hole in the axle housing.:D

I am thinking out loud here. Please don't flame me.

When you turn off a car motor, it gets hotter than it was when it was running due to the lack of circulation of coolant and oil that suck up heat and remove it.

With out axles, when we stop using them and the oil stands still, would they heat the oil around them and there would be less disapation of heat since the oil was not moving? Could this heat up the air above these areas faster?

Seems that using these tractors with the vents on hills has yet to have a puker. But park it, and it pukes. why...

Was it the hot day and the sun on the black case heated the air, not the oil and pushed oil up the tube? Was it a combination of sun and usage that did it? Was it just usage and the lack of circulation that sent the temps up?

I like the venting idea, but there are not too many axles out there that have expansion tanks. Most have a tube going up to the body and a filter on the end. I have a lot of currie high end axles on my jeep and they dont need a tank and they are turned in every way possible, they never leak.

So what makes this one puke......

Protrudes too much in my view.

Only way it can 'puke' is if the vent line is below the oil line.

Uh, Like Da....:D

I get that.:D What I was asking was a little more indepth than your simplifycation.;)

Seriously, why did arrabil have his puke? We know its bacuse he was parked on an angle and his vent was below the oil. Was it use, sun, ??? or ???? and how can this be easily solved. You might have the same issue long term.

I think you might want to go back and read his post here describing what happened. He was on flat ground, not using his tractor when it happened.

It's not a simplification, the only way oil can come out the vent is if the vent tube is submerged in the oil. Period. I can come out if it is surrounded by air.

Again, if you're interested go back and read my analysis of how this happens and conditions that can cause it. (Driving on an incline with a cool axle that heats up might do it but my theory is that the oil is moving around enough in the case to allow air to pass the vent keeping the axle and outside temp equal.)

As I said before two things must be present:

1.The vent must be below the oil line
2.There must be pressure in the case.

Parking on an angle, by itself, won't do it without pressure in the axle so if I'm using my tractor and I park it on a hill with the tranny hot it isn't going to push oil out the vent, if anything it's going to draw air in. If I'm parked on a hill and start my tractor and let it sit there the tranny won't get hot either because there's no friction in the case from moving to heat it up and thus no pressure.

I don't expect to have problems with my vent, if I do I'll report it here. I used it extensively yesterday in all kinds of positions, so far so good.

How about you go back and read arrabills post about 3 past the one you linked... It will tell you he parked on a slope... The few above this might be of interest also... I am really trying to be serious and help to solve this. We all need to be on the same page here, and I understand every word in your above post. no need to repeat it. ;) At some point, oil coming out your vent is a posibility.

There has to be a good way to vent this to there is no need for an expansion tank and there would be no chance of the vent getting broke or leaking oil. They do it in cars every day.

Apparently he had two leakage situations. If he's on a slope he still has to have higher pressure in the tranny to force the oil out IF the vent is below the oil line. I addressed this possibility with a collection chamber.
The problem when he was on flat ground could only happen if the vent was below the oil line so my thinking is that there were other problems with his design.

Again, we'll see what happens with my design, right now it's fine. I drove on slopes when it was cool and allowed the axle to heat up without incident. I think the oil sloshing around allowed enough air to keep the pressure neutralized.

What's your design? Got any pics?
