Ford manual wont go into reverse

It might be something as simple as a clutch adjustment or replacement (especially if it's hard to get into first gear too) or theremight be a broken gear in there.
How hard to fix? Depends on ease of access, does the tractor require splitting, parts availability...

not much to go on. is it a manual transmission or the select-o-shift? A manual trans, you can at least pull the top plate and take a peek inside to see whats going on. if its the select-o-shift, those are best left to an expert to repair. Lots of valves, o-rings, and so on in them.
Needing such a repair raises a flag for me. Owner may well be trying to sell because replacing the tractor may be cheaper than the repair itself.

I've never had an SOS, but like Charles said there are people who run screaming when they see those three letters. Then there are few experts out there who could lead you through diagnosise and repair.

we really need to know what it is and what tranny it has.
3000 could have 4spd, 8spd, 10spd sos ( column shifter ).. etc.
4000 should have an 8spd or 10spd.
8spd is twin stick..

the select o speed will have a short shift lever under the steering wheel, as opposed to one or two sticks on the top of the transmission.
Its been years since i've run one of the sos transmissions but as i recall the "clutch" really isnt a clutch, but instead interupts the flow of fluid through the trans to give the ability to start, stop and change gears.
Like i said though its been years and i could be mistaken about that.
As i recall also, the sos has a removable filter on the side of the trans. Looks like a large plug with a long skinny screen filter attached.

yep.. 'inching' pedal on the SOS is a valve.. not a real clutch.. etc.
