Ya know the thing that I have never understood..
Is why do they make these 15KW generators for 3PH and not have one that has an output for all 100 AMPs on a single connector...

J

Yea it doesnt make since. I have used 2 plugs in parallel and connected together to make a setup that would allow full use of the generator.

how did you do this without tripping the breakers?

It had 2 -240 volt outlets off the same Generator mind you. I made sure the legs were the same phase and actually molded the plugs that way. Each plug was rated for 20 amps and the generator would source 30 amps. It never give me any problems for 20 years of use.

If I may interject this here:D,

Unless you need to run a dairy barn or some similar emergency use, I would recomend figuring out how to get by with a smaller generator for power outages. Instead of 15kw think 3 to 5kw, a small Honda 3kw genset can provide a few lights, refrigerator and furnace blower while using very little fuel. Fuel may be hard to obtain so you would wan't to stretch it.

Running a tractor at pto speed will in most cases use a lot of fuel in a days time. Much more economical to use a fixed in place gasoline or nat/lp genset.

That is what I currently use a small fuel efficient air cooled diesel 6.5KW now if I lived in the deep south i would have to have a unit to run the AC but what I have now meets my needs. Run the fridge, freezer, well pump, and lights and such will get us by when needed. My generator will run 12 hours at 50% load on 3.5 gallons of fuel.

Randall that is good on fuel usage. Our 7KW with the B&S 18 HP engine will suck down about a gallon an hour but we heat with electric so we run max possible without tripping the generator breakers too often.

That is what drove me to a diesel is the fuel consumption. I have a 4KW gas that will use a gallon an hour under heavy load. I didn't believe the diesel would do that well but I have tested it under controlled load and it was impressive for a Chinese clone of a Yanmar.

During the big ice storm in 2009 I had to wake every four hours to make sure ours did not run out of gas. After a while I did not need the alarm. :)

Do you have a name I could good for a version like you have?

When we built our house money was a little more in the pocket... and we installed a 200amp transfer switch with the plan of putting in a B&S 25KW generator...
We live in the mountains and have had weeklong outages...

With ALL electric, heat, water heater, cooking, well water, and everything else we thought it would be better to power most of everything with a generator for those times..

But If we could put a 10KW or 12KW in and cover heat, and the other must haves and NOT have to change that transfer switch..
I'd do it!

12KW is a 100 amp t/s 10 is a 50 amp

I guess it boils down to the start mechanism....

Is it manual?

200 amp will work for any load not over 200 amps is my take. I saw one at HF last week but it was like $400 I think.
