sounded similar.

:)

I like old stuff.. :)

Very close! I don't know the series, but it was a D7 that had as many handles as an old road grader!

Found what I'm looking for here Chalwyn Manual Shut Down Valves
I just need to fine a source to purchase... but read the installation instructions, it states that the crankcase vent needs to be removed from between the shutdown and the engine.

I feel if this alone would have been done it would have (at least in my situation) prevented my engine from running off, so in addition to the air kill I'll probably look at running the breather hose to another location, possibly to atmosphere and a vent filter.

Just route it to the upstream side of your shutoff valve.

Steve, glad all is well with you and the tractor!!!!!

The air shut off is a great idea, I've watched a tractor roll over and you have ridden one so you know how your thoughts run, how about having it hooked to be automatic when the tractor, car,or truck reaches a certain point!

Every diesal engine would appreciate it!

If your tractor was financed though Kubota the rollover would be covered!

There are several options for the air kills, RPM limited, electric (shuts when you turn off the switch) air, manual, etc.
The tractor "was" financed through Kubota but I paid it off about a year after i bought it.

I used the tractor some today moving some stone and all seems to working as well as before.

be reasonable! turn your tractor off the way the manufacturer meant you to.

the co2 method would be a last ditch to kill a runaway.

there is already co2 in the atmosphere... it's not going to overtly damage the engine past what's already being done to it in a runaway.

Good information. Thanks for the OP. I'm so glad that he is here to talk about it:):). Such an informative thread.

My two cents on how to kill the engine swiftly. The electric fuel shut off valve that is a normally closed (without power) should have an extra on/off switch in series that has a blade to maintain the continuity. This switch should be installed next to the seat where operator sits and should be tethered to. In case the operator escaping the platform or yanking out the string should kill the power to the solenoid to subsequently killing the engine. Same concept can be applied to a normally closed anti compression valve to be tripped by mechanical pull (tether) and strong spring. Obviously, it will be a pain to have a sensing string tether attached to the operator all times and some $$ to incorporate in the control system . It would be no different with the same mechanism they already use for water-crafts. The key is ROPS helped the OP and there is just not enough tractor out there that is worth his life..

I'm guessing the crankcase vent line is run into the intake air and the oil came through the vent line into the intake (the reason I have oil on my air filters) and was sucked into the engine that way, I don't think it blew past the rings, it had to come through the crankcase vent into the air intake, I may look at rerouting this as well.

I think you found the cause. I agree with HOOKED, the oil being burned
would not have been going past the rings. Crankcase venting is now
something to think about in a rollover.

In the talk of compression release, whose tractor has that? The only
ones mentioned that I recall were the Kamas. The pull levers on the
Kiotis were not CR levers; they were just manual overrides to the fuel
cutoff solenoid. They would have done nothing to help here.

Two good reasons to carry a CO2 fire extinguisher....one in case of fire and the other to kill a runaway engine.

Thats what I was thinking, going to buy one tomorrow. With my luck though it will just smack me in the head and knock me unconscious in the even of a roll over.

I thought compression releases were more of a feature on hand started engines.

Is it even possible to retrofit decompression valves? I like the simplicity of that option but suspect it involves serious machining as a retrofit.
