I have a (new to me) Bush Hog Squealer 480-2 with a seized up pto shaft. It will not extend...at least so far.

For 5-8 years, the equipment has been stored outside with the tractor end of the power shaft higher than the mower gear box.

How do I go about loosening the shaft? I am concerned about braking the plastic safety guard which rotates just fine.

I'd tale the plastic off If I can. Raise the end of the shaft up and keep it up by a string tied up to the end coupler and attached on a rafter or so. I'd spray penetrating oil on the shaft to see if it soaks in. I'll give it some time. Just to encourage things, I take a heat gun and heat up the shaft. I take a hammer and try to jar it a bit and hopefully it comes out. Can put a come along on the tip to see if you can pull the shaft out as the last resort.
