Can anyone with an M7040HDC or similar size/weight tractor provide any type of information or recommendations?

M7040 HDC, 1153 & QA 72", landpride 6' shredder, box blade.

Tow vehicle is an 08 F250 - bumper pull hitch.

- GVWR? Tractor approx 5500lbs. Not sure about implements...
- What length will we need we need? What can we get away with?
- New vs used? We don't intend to use very often.
- Any certain manufacturer - good, bad or indifferent?
- Any certain place to buy from?

:anyone:

Thank you!

that would put you in the 8-11000 pound bracket with 2 axles adn trailer brakes as well as an underframe hitch unless you have a single axle dump truck.

a 14-16 footer will be long enough with a front end loader
for the simple reason that if you get stopped and weighed you will be in hot water.

Not the issue- work required to make it road legal is the issue if its used plus: floor condition, and frame rust and how bad it is. If you have weak weldments or ramps your done for.

potato, potatoe, you have to shop or search for a quality used one or check auctions, tractor house etc., they have to be road legal.

- Any certain place to buy from?

its called shopping and deciding if your wallet can tolerate not shopping.

You know your tractor is road legal dont you? Buy a heavy Pronovost dump trailer to carry the extra fuel cans, attachments, hand tools etc., and gravel or stone or what ever you need to move.
==================================================

driving the tractor:

a. it may take you a little longer to go from a to b and then back to a.

b. you eliminate need insurance on the haulage trailer and extra insurance on the tractor as you are transporting it plus annual inspections of the trailer too.

c. you eliminate the need to buy ratchet tie downs or chain binders of the screw ratchet type with double hooks and either tie down chain or webbing.

d. you elimnate buying a new hitch and wiring for trailer brakes required on the haulage vehicle.

====================================================================================================

1. if your haulage vehicle is not capable to trailer that heavy a load you have to buy one.

2. tractor plus trailer weight plus tongue wieght is total weight which will affect the required additional stopping distance.

3. you are trapped in a traffic jam too close to other vehicles and you have no way to back up if you forget to stop 30 feet behind the vehicle in front of you and maintaining that distance while creeping.

4. you may be better off arranging to have it moved by a flat bed wrecker arranging a two way passage price agreed upon if the tractor will be moved more than once a month.

Thank you!

I use a 25' Neckover dovetail gooseneck rated for 24000 lbs. This is somewhat more trailer than I need at the present time but I wanted to make sure I wouldn't have to buy another trailer if I ended up with a larger tractor. I chose the 25' because I have some space limitations for turning it around, otherwise I would have gotten a 30+ footer. Bear in mind that it is not cheap and requires an electric brake and gooseneck hookup on your vehicle. Not really a viable solution for one or two trips a year, but I haul equipment to several hundred acres scattered over three counties on a regular basis.

I used to use a 16' bumper pull for all my equipment, but a blowout carrying (way) over the legal weight convinced me that I needed a bigger trailer. I was lucky that day that no one was hurt, and only minor equipment damage was sustained. I decided then that I had pushed my luck too often for too long.

Just a thought, but I move my tractors so seldom, it is cheaper for me to pay someone than to buy and store a trailer. We have a gooseneck my brother bought years ago for the backhoe that isn't worth using anymore due to lack of use.

That would be the ideal solution. But at the present time I don't have enough tractors or a secure storage area to do that. The trailer was way cheaper than a new tractor and steel building.

It would be great to have a tractor waiting for me ready to fire up rather than go through the hassle of loading and unloading. But thats not in the cards right now.

Yep, everyone's situation is different. Our farms are all within a six mile radius and rarely need to be transported.

I have found that sometimes people get caught up in the process and buy stuff they "want" rather than "need" or "might need" some day. I am certainly no different in that I "want" a nice backhoe and trailer and...just don't need them.

I thought a skid loader would be a great addition, but after using a Bobcat 864 for about a month we pretty much ran out of stuff to do with it.
