Kubota Orange Paint?

Went into TSC on Saturday and asked the salesperson what happened to the New Kubota Orange. He told me that they had to pull ALL orange paint due to some regulatory action (I think he said EPA)... supposedly there is a carcinogen in the orange colorings. Not wanting to argue with him, I didn't point out that there were still quarts and gallons of the "old" Kubota orange as well as AC orange still on their shelves. By the way, the AC orange is a pretty good match, especially if you are only painting implements and not trying to touch up spots on the tractor itself.

Gee, the EPA..it never ends..so sad...

It wouldn't surprise me if the new Kubota Orange II (Bright) didn't have some lead or other extreme brightner in it. Not saying it did or does, but there's some reason that it's getting pulled off of shelves. And for some reason that Sherwin Williams, a very large paint manufacturing company, can't or won't match it.

I had picked up a couple of spray cans a the dealer a while back and still have them. But I'm not so **** that I'd be above using Valspar's Autumn Crush or AC Organge. As far as I'm concerned, it's way overpriced anyway at $11/spray can and $38/quart!

I still have a gut feeling that Kubota is somehow behind this issue. If not, then why can Kubota still sell their brand of new kubota orange? Whatever the component is that creates that exact color has to be the same that Valspar was using.

Yes people, there are some useful items that require caution while using them. Good grief...that's life! If we succeed in getting rid of everything some one might hurt themselves with, there won't be much left!! :2cents:

My understanding is the EPA had a new set of emissions rules that went into effect August 1. One of the ingredients in the Valspar paint carried by TSC, was apparently an item that fell under stricter control (I'm guessing based on my paint guy's comments) although probably not a carcinogen. Also likely, the particular Kubota color needs this ingredient in several other companies' formulations. As an example: My Sherwin Williams rep was unable to match the Kubota II except in the really expensive ($130 per gal) automotive paint. My guess is that their formula would need this MYSTERIOUS unknown component and they did not have it available.

The mysterious ingredient must not be a required component of all orange paints as several are still available.

Disclaimer: I have no expertise as a paint compounder or chemist. These comments are purely assumptions and speculation based on information received from several sources of unknown reliability. Please do not assume the information is accurate!

I find it interesting that on a couple of scuff points in the paint on my new B2920 that the substrate color is yellow. Does Kubota paint with a yellow primer, or pre-color to help brighten the final orange that goes on? I'm no painter, but I suspect that part of what makes the Kubota orange so bright might be that sub-color of yellow. Just wonderin'. Just my :2cents:

The yellow primer makes the orange brighter and allows coverage with less paint. We use white primer for orange parts. It takes about 3 thick coats of orange to cover a dark primer or bare metal.

Yes, I am learning that on the three point hitch adapter I made. Of course running out of paint and having it removed from the shelves @ Lowe's and TSC hasn't helped!:mur:

...that explains it!

I was at Lowes about a month ago and one of the items I was going to buy was the Valspar orange paint. I got to the checkout and the lady tried 3 times to ring up the paint with no luck. I thought she just needed to verify I was over 18 (or whatever age you need to be to buy paint etc... now-a-days!)...
She finally looked closer to what the register was saying to her , and I about fell over when she said she can`t sell it due to a recall....I thought surely there`s a mistake , but at that point I was ready to get out of there as were the 6-8 people behind me :)

Came home and told the wife and she couldn`t believe it either! I just told her what I found here and we both got a good chuckle.

...and I had ALREADY looked @ TSC for the paint but they were ALL out...now I know why!

I just picked up 2 cans of the "Autumn Crush" 65077 at Lowes without an issue.
