My neighbor has an old 430 lawn tractor with the older style 7 iron deck and it mows so much better than my x320 John Deere with 48 inch deck
X series drive over decks??

I'm pretty close to buying a 2305 with 54" deck... the 2320 is out of the budget. It would be nice if they would make a drive over for this machine...

the drive overs are very nice... I wonder though, I think the 2305 and 2320 use the same MMM, could you buy the drive over parts and install it on the 2305??

The 2305 might weigh to much for going over the deck?? Not sure...

Looks like we could make ramps for almost any deck that would support the mower without touching the deck to do the same thing. Has anyone seen similar ramps for sale?

Glad I found this thread! I'm a few days from buying an X748 or X749. I really want the 4 wheel steer, but the 7 iron drive over deck sounds a lot better than the 62" deck.
Now I have to decide which is better 4 WS or the 7-iron. I will be mowing some rough stuff and I hate cleaning mower decks. I also like the idea of removing the deck by driving over it.
I found a used '08 748 (2 wheel steer) with no deck. I wonder what the hassle factor would be for mounting a 7-iron to it?

One thing my dealer told me when buying my x720 was that the 7iron deck is a deeper (taller) deck and would reduce clearance when driving over stuff and or loading, etc...
Looks like a nice deck though. I think it costs about 500.00 more than a 62C

I purchased the 60" 7 Iron deck last fall when I bought my new X748. My previous tractor was an X595 with the 62C mower. In my opionion the 7 Iron is a vast improvement. I also had basically the same mower on a 4300 compact utility tractor ten years ago.
The 62c on the X595 and 60" on my 445 were pretty good mowers but the underside of the deck had too many baffles, rivet heads on other obstructions that allowed for the clippings, sludge as I call it, to accumulate. If one is able to mow when the grass is bone dry it is less of a problem but there still is accumulation. If you mow with the slightest bit of moisture the sludge accumulation is worse. It really has to be cleaned after each mowing.
The 7 Iron deck is a wide open design. The accumulation of sludge is mimimal. I took the deck off to sharpen the blades a month ago and I had about a half of a dustpan. That was the first time this year. ON my 62C I would have had 3 scoop shovels. It is amazing the difference.
I believe the quality of cut is a little better as well. The 62C does a good job but I believe the 7 Iron is better.
Attaching and detaching is as easy as the videos show. I was a little nervous at first to drive over a $2100 deck. But to detach the mower is less than one minute. Attaching is little more difficult as you have to allign the lift arms into the slots on the mower as you are backing up and over the deck. It took me a few tries to figure out how best to line up but now can do it on the first try every time.
The gearbox is also quieter. I'm not sure if it is a different design but you can tell the difference.
Yes it is $500 more than the 62C but I believe it is worth it.

What I can't grasp is how the driveshaft connects/disconnects.
Also, would you feel comfortable using your X in a semi-commercial capacity, like cutting a few rough lawns each month? No rocks/dirt/bushogging or anything like that, but 12" heavy grass-yes. Is the X748 a "china doll" that you'd be afraid to throw into some light commercial work?
I have a few swaths of grass to do for customers along long driveways. It's too delicate for my M-7040 with flail, but too rough for a homeowner grade lawn tractor.
