I have a TW20 Ford tractor that makes a ticking kind of noise at the front of the engine.
I removed the belt that runs to the A/C compressor, still clicks/ticks.
I removed the remaining two belts and spun the water pump, idlers and alternerator, all seem really good, put the belts back on leaving the A/C belt off, still have the noise ( notice at idle )
Would the hermonic balancer make this kind of a ticking noise??
Belts are in very good condition !!
Thanks for any input

Although some harmonic balancers can make some noise when they fail.. normally you can grab it with the belt off and move them slightly with just your hand, if it moves by hand and you hear the click noise..well there's the problem... however....

Depending on the noise, I might be thinking timing chain, or if it's a gear mesh set up, the gear cogs might be sloppy. A chain will age/stretch, it can deflect too much and make a ticking/clicking noise as it slaps. Hope it's a simpler issue. Good luck Tim

Just a swag from me, but how about hydraulic pump, power steering pump, fuel pump? I would think raising the 3ph might cause a hydraulic pump to change pitch and turning the front wheels might cause the power steering pump to also change sound. Electric fuel pumps tick, but the lift pump on a TW20 (if it has one) might be mechanical. Also, if it's something ticking due to harmonic vibration, it could be really fun to trace down. I'm guessing you've stepped on the clutch and other pedals to see if there's any change as well.

Check the fan to make sure there isn't a cracked blade. Start it with all the belts off and see if noise is gone . If it is gone add 1 belt at a time untill it returns.

I thought for sure I had an alternator bearing going bad, turned out to be a very odd rattle inside the muffler on my TC40. Something loose in there that vibrates. If I put my hand on the muffler after starting (cold of course) the noise vanishes.

I use an automotive type stethoscope anytime I asked to take a look at a pump in a very noisy chiller/mechanical room. You can also use a piece of 1/2" emt (metallic conduit) or pipe to take a close listen. you might be able to identify the cause of offending noise.

A piece of old wooden broom handle makes a good stethoscope also. Just lay the side of it against your ear and touch the end to the item in question. I suspect it might be a bad idea to put one end on your ear and the other end on the engine.
