Quick question about turning with brakes and Hydro trans.?

/ Quick question about turning with brakes and Hydro trans.? #11
This is one of those threads that I don't care about what people's opinions are on whats better, only looking for the method you use.

Of course this is a public forum so anyone can say what they want, but I would really appreciate it if you just posted the way that works best for you with the brakes on the right....

For instance,
On my Case 275, there is a gas pedal on the right with the two brakes, also a 'hand throttle' (whatever it's called :D) on the (right side of) steering column, so what I do is hold down one brake or the other, and use the steering column throttle since I can't hold my foot on the gas pedal.

I guess maybe I should have asked this instead and been more specific, so here is the new question
On the Kubota 5240 with cab, does it have a 'hand throttle' that you can use instead of the hydro pedals? and if so where is it located? Is it on the left or right?

Sorry for bringing up a sore subject but I'm pretty confident we can all be mature over my 'quick' question. Thanks guys

Now that's funny.

Seriously, I do pretty much the same a koua, but I have also used my cane; probably won't apply to you. The cruise control is on the left side of the Grand L and works quite well.

You stated that you are not very knowledgeable about tractors, so some of us just HAVE to help educate you on the "right way" to do things. Steering with brakes is just not something some of us find a real factor in picking a tractor.

Sorry for the add on but one more question as well. :D
Are there any other tractor manufacturers that have the brakes on the left side other than JD?

I believe TYM has brakes on both sides with steering on the left.

I've got a Kioti with brakes on the left and hydro pedals on the right. If you have a Kubota with hydro and brake pedals on the same side and you want to use the brakes for steering you need to get an optional hand brake kit. I think it is part #2x4x36 ;)

I thought that pt# 2x4x36 was the remote 3pth operating kit....

For steering brakes, having the brakes opposite to the hydro makes lots of sense. However, the other day, I found myself hitting the hydro harder (since a car/truck brake pedal is on the right). Quickly caught myself and put left foot on brake.

It's plain dumb to put the hydro and brake pedals on the same side and interfering with each other. Makes more sense overall to do what I vaguely remember seeing on (think it was) a B model Kubota. The hydro wiggle pedal was back towards the seat with the brake pedals further to the right of it. It would make more sense to put the hydro pedal to the right of the brake pedals. Maybe slightly offset the driver's seat to the right similar to the way old B Farmalls were. Then the positions would be the same as on a car/truck for best overall safety. For those with clutches, put those to the left.

Maybe the reason they put the brakes on the same side as the hydro pedal is, the tractor is not built strong enough to withstand the forces that happen when you brake steer. If the engineers found that they had a problem with the design and things were getting torn up during a brake-steer operation, they would have to solve it while still satisfying the marketing team who kept saying "we need to advertise this tractor has brakes". This stuff happens all the time. Not the greatest solution, but it gets the tractors out the door.
