Go with the Stihl Farm Boss MS290. It will last for decades.

I agree with this, I just finished using mine today to fell a 40 foot maple at my grand mothers. Took us an hour and 20 minutes start to finish. The saw made short work of it. We spent about 15 minutes felling and bucking. The rest the time was bundling up the branches and loading it in the truck.

I can't help on this much. Long time ago I used to work for Westvaco, a large timber company. I ask the pulp wood cutters what they used and to a man every one used a Husky.
That told me what I needed to know about brands. I bought a husky commercial 240 (2 rings on cylinder) in 1977. Cut a LOT of wood. sometimes went 3 to 5 years without starting...always started easy and usually on the 3rd pull after choking proper. 2007 it got it's first tune up and new spark plug. Still using it today. ...... I kinda like husky brand after 33 yrs of ownership.

I've had two Stihl saws, my current is a Wood Boss. I will never own another brand as long as I live. I love that saw. I know this thread isn't brand new, but I would invest in a good pair of chaps. Best $60 you can spend, you never know when one of these saws will snap back right across your thigh!

Yep and has been for a long time. Most people just dont understand what they are buying and just know the name Stihl and Farm Boss .
Some guy at work came up to me and showed me his new Farm Boss MS290 he got for $400 out the door. Then I explained to him how it was built and that I had a like new MS361 with 20" setting on the shelf for $350. He about cried when I showed him the difference of how they were built and the cutting difference in some hardwood. He felt :ashamed: the dealer didnt explain to him about how the saws were made and the differences.
I am just joining this post and looking for a new saw (leaning towards Stihl), including the 362 so would love to know if you found a 361 for $350 at a dealer or if you're offering to sell yours for $350. Thanks for your help.

I'm sorry I gotta laugh at all of this. In the last two months I've dropped and cut ten cords with my POS Homelite 18" 42cc that I got as a present in October.

What I did do was buy myself a nice $200.00 benchtop sharpener. I don't care what brand you're running the components are only good if you've got a sharp chain.

I've put in a couple hundred hours on Husqs, Stihls, Poulans, and Craftsman in my life and they all have good and bad points but a $400 saw with a dull chain is as useful as a dung heap.

Sharp ?

Real men run square-ground chisel chain .... and sharpen it with a file .... :p
