The next oil change will not repeat this . It's a first change
only , so don't be concerned .

That is by BIG concern. The pic that I posted WAS the second oil change. The first change was @ 137 hours and that oil was BLACK and absolutely had metal in it. I drained it @ 210 hours and it had no metal in it but as you can see in the pic, it certainly is BLACK.

Just a question here. Does Deere offer the option of using a low vis, 75w-90 synthetic gear lube in the front axle? Not either/or on this series? Curious.

250 hours and still giving black oil in a front mech drive.
I would have honestly said the case-hardening was gone
, but with no metal whatsoever , it's peculiar indeed.
My LR3 front diff was replaced last week due to case-hardening
failure , but the black oil was full of metal too . On a tractor there
is too much noise to hear the diff.
